What's new

is it true? hayward requested a trade in 2016. Another black eye for DL?

If true... Depends on the situation. Boston was low-balling everyone, remember? If DL was doing his job and got low-balled (i.e. no lottery picks or decent players) then why would he entertain that? Boston was under no pressure to do anything considering they'd get him for free in a few months anyway.

The real fault lies in DL not shopping Hayward around the league.

If this is all true of course.

i rly do think hayward requested a trade to boston...

i would like to hear what DL has to say about this.

It was a 'report' by someone I don't want to give extra notoriety to so I won't mention his name. He's a **** reporter that makes up rumors just to drive traffic to his outlets. He was publicly and by name called out by John Hollinger for being a liar previously. I've never seen an NBA GM do that to any reporter and Hollinger isn't even a very media present executive.

With that said - if this is true, it's a real blemish on DL's resume. I think this is a fireable offense if true that Hayward requested trade and we decided to lose him for nothing.

It's very probably not true. It makes no sense given that DL maintained he had a good relationship with Hayward and that he was optimistic Hayward would stay.

completely untrue. the last thing DL is would be that stupid.

I don't doubt it's true at all. Why else do you think the Jazz sold a first round pick for George Hill? I think DL wanted to pull out all the stops to convince Hayward to stay. It could have worked too if the Jazz stayed healthy (likely would have been a 60 win team), Lyles didnt disappoint in his 2nd year, Favors didnt look dead, and Hill actually signed the extension he was offered (similar to the one Robert Covington took).

And what would Boston really give back for Hayward if they thought he was coming in free agency? It might have been such a small return it was better to bet on the season being good enough to convince Hayward to stay.

The black eye for DL is Hayward's contract negotiation with Hayward back in 2014.

Not only that, but if Hayward has made All-NBA he’d have been in line for a Super Max extension. Both sides would’ve been stupid to commit to a plan of action that led to a trade before exploring that.

This. ^^^ Even if they just gave him the 4 year max without the player option for the last year, he’d be in Utah with another year to make their case. Say what you want, but a healthy Gobert, Hayward and Mitchell on this team makes them a top 4 team in the West.

It's not true. If it was Hayward would have been traded. And not to Boston who would have been lowballing like crazy but to 1 of 28 other teams who would have been extremely interested. Hayward kept his love affair with Danny and Brad secret. I wonder if his wife knew. She might be kinky like that.

Hey guys...I just dug up more juicy inside info. Did you know that Haywood also liked playing tennis and video games. Oh, and he was also a really big *****.
Just thought I'd share.

If Phoenix was in fact offering #4 + #13 that would have been a good trade. HOWEVER, it was good to go to the playoffs last season and make it to the second round. In the long-run it may not have been worth it especially with the hindsight of Hayward leaving, but it was a good ride and fun season.

Yep. Jazz should have given him a five year max, and they should have fires Corbin to hire Stevens. It's all hind sight though. Hayward wasn't all NBA under his rookie contract or anything, so it was a tough call.

Saint Cy is right. It was a made up rumor to get headlines. Local media was shocked and denied it. Dennis Lindsey went on 1280 the next day and said he talked to Gordon at the practice facility and had a warm heart to heart where Gordon said he had nothing to do with the rumor and appreciated playing for the Jazz.

It is time to move on.

im sure he said that same thing to his ex gf before he ditched her for robyn. Cant trust a snake. Hayward never had the courage to be a real man.
