Utah Trade Deadline Discussion

Jazz fans would hate Kevin Love: he plays no defense at all. When he's got to contest a shot in the paint, he doesn't. He just turns around and hopes to grab the rebound. One of the main reasons why his rebound numbers are good. Meanwhile, the opposing PF has a career game. After a missed shot, he tends to complain to the refs while the other team plays 4 on 5. He has a tendency to break his hands. He gets 25M/year. The idea of Kevin Love is way better than the actual player.

2019 is a glaring obvious FA target date for the Jazz. Jazz could even reap the benefits of a tight 2018 FA money pool AND still strike in 2019.

Love is still a good player. And there is a Cleveland effect. Really think the high-post centric runs Love had in Minnesota were more valuable than what he gets in Cleveland.

I dont see anything we could get for Udoh that would be worth trading him for. They are not giving up a 1st. There is no player I want from Cavs that they are trading for him and Udoh is worth more to us than a 2nd.

Unless he is part of a bigger trade involving more players than I dont see why we would trade him.

Udoh for Osman straight up? (Udoh for young talent)

or

Udoh + Burks for Frye + IT? (Udoh used to move Burks for expirings)

1. He would get a 2nd round pick or two
2. He isnt going to every play anything but spot minutes if the Jazz don't trade Favors
3. The Jazz used a first round pick to draft Tony Bradley, who has been great in the G-League. I'm sure they want to give him minutes next year, maybe even some spot minutes this year. Hard to do that with Udoh.
4. He might get you a first if you package him with Hood. Udoh packaged w/ Hood might have more value to teams than Favors packaged w/ Hood because of how cheap Udoh is this year and next. You can have them both on your roster next year.
If he is packaged that makes sense.

I am not that sold on Bradley so I dont really care about clearing minutes and 2nd round picks are useless. I think he holds enough value to keep over getting 2nd or clearing time for a player that isnt good enough to take minutes from him.

If Bradley is good enough then he will earn his minutes, if he isnt then Udoh should keep getting minutes this year and next.

But I agree, if he is packaged then it makes sense. Although Hood and Udoh for a late 1st is a bad deal for the Jazz.

Why are you still trying to convince me? I just said I dont view the situation like this.

And even if we strike out in FA Id prefer the cap room be used on a bad contract and great pick instead of Fournier.
Right, because the Jazz should just perpetually be in rebuild mode.

To help solve a teams wing and rim protection issues, they'd wanna have a decent 1st.

I mean, it's not about what you or I think, but the Jazz did spend assets to move up to get him. He has played well in the G-League, so you have to think they really like him. You dont trade up in the first to get a guy to never play during his value years.

Utah is clearly very in tune with "doing right by their vets" so no, I dont think it's easy to play Bradley over Udoh if Udoh is here.

We better get someone otherwise DL may be asked for an explanation.

There is a tremendous opportunity right now and next season for any team with cap space (everyone is/will be clearing room for 18/19 Free Agency). Id hate for us to waste that opportunity for nothing.
It's been demonstrated that it's not a waste and it's not nothing. Remove your irrational disliking of Fournier for a second.
