Donovan Mitchell All Star Weekend Thread

They should have a second 3 point shooting contest using only players that have not hit a single 3 pointer all year.

Rudy Gobert, Ben Simmons, Andre Drummond, Clint Capela, Jordan Bell, Kenneth Faried, Enes Kanter and Michael Kidd-Gilchrist? Who wouldn’t want to see that? That’d be funny as hell.

Awesome idea.
Rudy Rudy Rudy.

Hell, as bad as some of the actual three point contest guys shot maybe some of these dudes could beat them. I saw multiple air balls and shots clanking off the backboard from guys who are supposed to be great shooters. I swear there were a couple of dudes who went like 6-25 or something.

Would be amazing if he could get his own shoe. You can count the number current NBA guys with their own shoes on 1 hand, so if Mitchell can get one, that's HUGE.

KD Kyrie Steph LBJ Dame Harden

Yo hand just got at least six fingers

PG has a signature shoe with Nike. Westbrook just got a signature shoe with Jordan. Anthony Davis said he's going to get a signature shoe with Nike soon. That'll be interesting since big men don't typically sell a lot. I think Giannis is going to get one soon too.

I dunno, can you count Westbrook's when it's sold as a Jordan's? Davis and Giannis - are they seriously gonna get their own shoes? I mean who's gonna buy them? Isn't Nike struggling to sell premium basketball shoes right now? I dunno if LeBrons and KDs are selling all that well. I mean the Lebron 15 are REALLY expensive and to me it's not really worth it for what you get.

I know Kyrie 3/4's are selling well cos of the low price point and high quality, but if I'm Nike I'd have to think long and hard about releasing a Davis or even a Giannis shoe in this economic climate.

Adidas was courting Giannis really hard, but Nike matched and said they're gonna make a signature line with him.

With regards to Westbrook, I'd consider it a signature shoe. That's how they're marketing it, anyways. He's not just wearing a different colorway of an existing silhouette like Kemba or Blake Griffin.

Yeah ok, but are YOU gonna be buying a Davis or a Giannis' shoes? I'm not sure I would.. they don't really have enough personality for me to buy their shoes.

Westbrook - I dunno man, why is he with Jordan brand in the first place, why not his own brand under Nike?

I wouldn't buy an AD shoe lol. I think Giannis has a good personality though and if they knock it out of the park with the design I could see it being cool.

"why not his own brand under Nike?"
Ironically Westbrook's shoe is called the Why Not lol. Also Westbrook signed a gigantic 10 year mega deal with Jordan brand to be the new face of that brand, instead of one of many faces under Nike. Jordan thought WB could be that guy when CP3, Melo, and Wade couldn't do it.

I personally think the marketing for the Why Not shoe is way off. It's offcially called the JORDAN 'WHY NOT?' ZER0.1. No where in the name does it have 'Westbrook' on it. If they make a kickass Nike Westbrook with an edgy design and cool Westbrook's logo on it I would probably wear it, but with the Why Not having the Jumpman in the middle it just looks off.

Like am I wearing a Jordan? Or am I wearing a Westbrook? It's just really confusing to me.

For sure. That's probably the main challenge for Jordan brand since the Jumpman is so tied to the retros. I know when I buy Jordans I only want the retros (well I pretty much only want AJ1s lol). It'll be interesting to see if WB can become the new face of the brand though. They're taking the long term approach with his 10 year contract so they at least have faith in it.

This is his most iconic pose, but it's so close to the Jumpman that I'm sure people would think it's sacrilege if they made this a logo on WB's shoes.

Yah only time will tell if the Westbrook/Jordan thing will work out. I know I don't plan on buying any of them anytime soon. Like I'd rather buy a new Giannis (if it's got an edgy design to it) over the Westbrook/Jordan. And definitely a new Spida Adidas over it even though I'm not an Adidas guy.

BTW - will you be getting the Jordan 1 'bred toe' next weekend?

Probably not. I already have breds, Chicagos, and Off White 1s, so I don't need another pair of black/white/red 1s lol. I think there are supposed to be a lot of pairs on release day so they shouldn't be too hard to get which is nice.
