Following Potential 2018 Draftees

How is Simmons eligible for this years draft? Shows he is in high school and from FL. What am I missing?

He did a year of prep school. He had committed to Louisville (hence the Donovan connection, he probably gave him the campus tour/recruited him) but then de-committed when the Pitino scandal happened.

We have a way of finding the 1 though... wanted anyone but Lyles... was not happy about the Tony Bradley pick, but that late in the draft I wasn't destroyed about it.

I soooooo wanted Bell last year, and was in love with Lyles in his draft. Thank god we drafted him over Booker, otherwise we might not have Mitchell today.

I mean, it's what everyone has been saying since Connaughton was the last small white guy who could jump really high.

If I knew Donte could guard NBA starting PG's well I would be more bullish on him.

We both said slightly better though... just made me laugh a little.

I think he moves better and handles better, but don't remember seeing Pat in college. I'd rather get Donte in the 30s and I think he'd be a tremendous value there... I think he is smart and solid enough to be a 4th/5th guard in his first year. At 21 I would likely go a different direction. If someone takes him top 20 I think they drank too much Kool Aid. I think we'd be a good fit for him.

I think he could be a non-crazy Delonte West, which is very good in today's NBA.

I wanted Semi, Hart, Bell (he's a 5 but different than a plodding big). DL sees it in Tony and it was a long term upside play... gotta be patient and trust him.

And this is the thing that would kind of make me mad about drafting Donte: Why in the hell didnt we draft Josh Hart when he had the chance. Josh Hart is undoubtedly better than Donte IMO, and he was there.

I wanted Hart... I think they are different doe. I think late 20s early 30s if you get a guy that is going to almost no doubt going to be a rotation guy then you do it. I didn't see a way he wasn't at least a rotation guy.

Can't make decisions based on sunk costs. I would like Donte, but I'm not sure he's in my top 21... I'd really like to get another pick in the top 30-40 though. Quite a few guys that provide value late... Okogie, Donte, Frazier, Alkins, Robinson... could see any of them being a draft steal... would love to get one more bite at the apple.

Just feel like he could’ve fit in perfect, we could’ve played him in an array of different situations and brought some extra nasty to this defense. Imagine my anger as he was drafted second round to GS. For me the Bradley pick was a head scratcher. He’s either going to be a backup or prove to be starter worthy, in which case he won’t be here past the rookie contract, and won’t make much impact playing behind Gobert. Bell could’ve possibly replaced Favors in a year or two and also Goberts backup.

I really don't expect the Jazz to be drafting at 21 if at all in the first round. Keep in mind the Jazz have not drafted where they were expected to in 3 of the last 5 years. The Jazz will take a hard look at their
shortcomings vs the Rockets and act accordingly. I think it is pretty clear that Gobert is not going to develop offensively much more than he already has. If the Jazz are building around Gobert, Mitchell, and Rubio then they need to go get another big who can score. There were too many dry spells offensively against a team like the Rockets. The Jazz need to put all their resources into that effort including the 21.

Josh Okogie did great in the athletic testing (42" max vert, 3.03' shuttle run), measured with a 7'0" wingspan, and apparently played well in his scrimmage. It seems as though he's locked into staying in the draft. I thought he was below our range, but he's probably now in the conversation starting in the early 20s. He can score, create with the ball, guard 2 or 3 positions, and he shot 38% on over 4 3-pt attempts per game this year. He has a quiet demeanor, plays under control and can do a bit of everything. If you liked Josh Hart last year, you should probably like Okogie a lot as well.

The Jazz need shooting and someone who can create and score in isolation. Ideally, yes, that player would be 6'8" - 6'10" and slide in at the 4, but you have to look for that talent anywhere you can get it. That's why Jerome Robinson really stands out to me. He's a guy who could put up 18 - 20 points per game and make a play late in the shot clock. He has touch and scoring instincts that can't be taught.

I think it's funny that all these guys are rising to the top 20 and now none of them will be available. Which guys are falling? Jontay Porter slides out of first round is my guess. I also thin Zhaire could slip because of measurements (from 12ish to 18ish?). Maybe Musa too... just cuz he's not around.

I don't think the Jazz can wait and hope to develop someone. They need someone ready to go now.
