Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Looking at players with comparable athletic numbers at the Combine, I come up with guys like Devin Booker, Aaron Harrison, Sam Dekker. Yeah, he has middling athleticism, but he can work on it.

Those guys had FAR more impressive college resumes.

And two of them are now mediocre NBA players.

For me, 30 is at the very end of where a couple of good prospects *may* be available. 38 there is basically nothing that isnt a dart toss.

And that's why you're wrong. There are players scattered everywhere from mid-teens to mid-30's in mock drafts because nobody really knows anything right now. There are players on here being talked about who will be at 30 and 34 and 38, etc.. Remember last year when tons of people were talking about Jordan Bell? Well, there will be that guy this year too. there will be more than one. Happens every year but even more on years like this so deep with talent.

But I forgot. Everybody look, Cy knows everything.

Actually you’d be throwing two darts instead of one...

Thank you HH. I appreciate the perspective.

The only reason DL trades down is if he's not sold on anyone at #21 or he can't use #21 to trade up. I made the assumption that everybody knew that because it's common freaking knowledge. We only trade down if we like three-five guys who are going to fall into the late 20's to early 30's and we don't absolutely love somebody at #21. Duh.

Jordan Bell is an overrated 23 year old rookie people got excited about because the Warriors drafted him.

And yeah, I wouldn't say anything I didnt believe in. This draft falls off around 30, and the Jazz arent trading down to get two picks in the 30's. The Jazz have never traded down like that. DL isnt stupid.

How many teams in draft history trade down from 21 for two picks in the 30's?

The Jazz dont need 3 draft picks this year. It's lunacy to trade down from a great slot to an average slot and a trash slot.

Brian Bowen is a sleeper. I'd love to take a chance on him in the second. Played well at the combine for a guy who didn't play college. That was encouraging.

Cy you don't know. Nobody does.

Would I trade #21 for #30, #34 and Atlanta's 2019 2nd? Probably not, but it's not my call. I was just listing trade down options.

Wasn’t it 21 for 26 and 38...

If we are looking at draft history... teams have found more stars at 30 than 21... the expected values of the picks are close. I’m not sure I’d do 30 and 34 for 21... would depends on who, if anyone slides, the results of trading back are mixed... we likely take our one guy but I’d love to find a way to get another pick in this draft.

How about you list your top 30 and add in some tiers... I’m willing to bet that a few of those guys are available at 34 and 38...

It depends on how the draft shakes out but I’d consider it. I don’t see the prospect that could slide, but I’d have guessed that OG went top 15 last year. There isn’t anyone in the 12-17 range that I’m enamored with that I think could slide.

Guys like Okogie and Okobo are mocked anywhere from 15-16 to 30-40ish by somewhat reputable draft sites. If I can get two prospects I like it’s better than one.

I've listed my big board already....
