Following Potential 2018 Draftees

There's a difference between a 'hard' promise and a promise with contingencies. A hard promise would be to say, "We'll stay at 21 and draft you there if you're available." A softer promise with contingencies would be, "If we decide to stay at #21 and you're on the board, we will draft you there, but we're looking at other options, including trades that could affect our decision to draft you."

I think the Jazz do make the latter kind of promise, since it's easy to do it and doesn't paint them in a corner. They apparently promised to draft CJ Miles back in the day and took him in the 2nd round after they traded away a late 1st-round pick to move up for DWill.

Beat me to the CJ Miles promise

No doubt, but we're scouting people's talent. He's not as talented as the guys we're comparing him with. If I hire an electrical engineer and he's doesn't know what the internet is I get worried, even if it's not related to the job I'm hiring him for. Get my drift?

I disagree. All these players we are looking at have their strong and weak points. Allen is underrated here. He’s a great shooter and can play some point in a pinch, can create for him and others

I just think Donte is younger and better and doesn't have the personality flaws Allen does. Taking Grayson over him makes no sense to me. He played on a better team and fit his role... put up similar/better numbers per 36. Give Donte another year and expanded role would he grow his game? Grayson did not.

I'm cool with Allen in the 30s... wouldn't put him above Donte or Heurter because he may not have a ton more growth in his game and both of those guys might. It isn't just the age... Allen has had a lot of reps.

I've confident Huerter and DD are a whole tier ahead of Grayson. We shall see. Grayson will be there at 21, the other two maybe not.

You left out the part about Utah then guaranteeing Miles' contract and paying hin exactly what he would have made at the original pick Utah traded in moving up. It was a class act by Larry H and KOC. They promised to draft CJ in the 1st and made good at least on the financial part.
