Following Potential 2018 Draftees

The Grizzlies aren't trading #4 unless someone takes Parsons AND gives them pieces to help them win now. They want to make the playoffs next year. Someone might give them an offer they like, but it won't be the Jazz.

I had this in the Wiggins/Butler thread. I think there could be something to this should Memphis like Wiggins:

Burks, Udoh, #21 and #52 to Minnesota

Wiggins, Jerekbo and Utah's 2019 lottery protected 1st to Memphis

Parsons, #4 and future Minny 2nd to Utah

Minnesota gets out from Wiggins' contract, save a good bit, and get a 1st for Wiggins.
Memphis gets a player for #4, dumps Parsons and gets a 1st rounder in 2019 when they don't have one.
We get #4 for talking that awful Parsons contract instead of Minny.

This has some meat to it, but Memphis is now on the hook for even more salary.

Yep. How much do they want to "win now" with Gasol and Conley coming to the end of their careers? I think Wiggins is flawed, but I do think he's better now than anybody from the draft for the short term. And maybe, just maybe, he shines with the extra touches given to him in Memphis. Thibs is no fun to play for and there are too many ball dominant players in Minnesota.

Posted in the wrong thread earlier.

Wagner vs. Spellman as stretch bigs?
I'd rather give Bjelica the MLE and draft someone else. if I had to choose between the two... I'd probably go Wagmer but I don't have a strong opinion either way.

Edit:
The biggest appeal of getting a stretchy big is to play alongside Gobert and IMO you cannot play Wagner at the 4 so he will be severely limited in the number of minutes and role he gets on the Jazz so his appeal is a bit dampened. Spellman is probably better suited to play the 4 than Wagner... so it might actually be better to pick him if we are strictly going for stretchy big to pair up with Gobert.

Thibs is president of basketball operations and head coach of the Wolves. I don't see him taking that deal. His job is already on shaky ground. He needs the Wolves to win next year. He can't afford to take steps backward.

It seems very clear that both Wiggins and Butler are unhappy. Wiggins wants more touches and Butler doesn't like Wiggins. If Thibs rolls the dice with two unhappy main men, the whole season could implode then Thibs is definitely out and Butler might just walk next summer.

This could be the last moment that Wiggins has real value in the league. If he comes off as a pompous punk this season with locker room issues, then he becomes a liability Minnesota can't trade.

Overall, Burks, Udoh and #21 looks weak for Wiggins, but then again, Minnesota could just re-sign Bjelika, lick their wounds and shed Wiggins' massive salary.

When it comes to Lopo trades I don't hate this one. Not sure it is enough for wiggins how ever. Minny gets the worst of that trade unless they love Burks.

Really? I feel like Memphis says no. They want to trade Parsons to get off of his deal. He has 2 years 50 mil left. Wiggins has 5 years 147 mil left on his deal.

But with Conley and Gasol able to spread the floor wiggins will have much more room to drive. It is a pretty decent pick up for Memphis.

Sounds like the last workout was one of the best. Walt Perrin says it ended with a bang. Are we going to draft Jacob Evans or is it the Moose?

Well thanks.

I see this as a damage control trade for Minnesota. If Wiggins is unhappy, he has to be dealt. His contract is pretty massive for a guy who is largely unproven. I'm sure they would love to get more for Wiggins, but sometimes, you just have to take what you can get. It's very possible that Wiggins is an "immovable" contract within a year.

If Minnesota really wants to trade Wiggins they can do a lot better than Burks, Udoh a late first and a second. Like I said, Thibs can't afford the Wolves going backward. Their goal isn't to shed salary. It's to win now.

Didn't Kostas shut down his workouts? Rumor was that Charlotte gave him a 2nd round promise at #55.

For you conspiracy theorists, would that explain the hiring of Fotis Katsikaris as an assistant?

Kostas is a physical specimen: 6-foot-10 with a 7-foot-2 wingspan and 9-foot-2 standing reach. He could be Fotis' responsibility to develop

There are about 5-10 guys who I want to draft who are probably 2nd round prospects. He is one of them...

Minny could be the next Denver on DLs list. Could you imagine what Quin and Co could do with Wiggins?

Also, Parsons is akin to Noah's contract. If you recall the trade options to dump Noah included The Unicorn. What can Memphis do if they get rid of $24 million now?

Well, they would be $22 million under the cap of we traded nothing but expiring (which I understand you cannot do anymore). That's enough to be players in a free agent year where there are few spenders.

Is that worth a 4th/21st pick swap? It depends on what other teams are offering. Could we sweeten the deal with a very favorable royce O'Neal contract? Sure.
