Following Potential 2018 Draftees

Charlotte knows they can't win in the next few years with that Batum contract on their books. I think they're going into full tank mode the next couple seasons to hopefully be armed once they have substantial cap space open up again.

Mentioned this in the other thread, but I would trade Kemba and Batum to Cleveland for Hill and Clarkson. Batum's contract is at $27 million for 2020/21. Yikes.

I think Brown's skill level is actually very high, and in many respects higher than Kevin Knox. He can handle, pass, rebound, attack off the dribble and score at 3 levels. He has really good feel, instincts and anticipation. He should be able to defend wings. He needs to work on his body and his shooting, and there's some risk, but he's a fairly complete prospect.

With Okogie, his skill level isn't quite as advanced yet and he plays a little out of control. For all his length and hops, he barely gets above the rim on his dunks and isn't quite the lock-down defender he should be. If his skill level really improves, he could be amazing. If it doesn't, he's mostly an energy player.
I feel like you are just talking here, basically making things up - almost hoping it's true- convincing yourself. If he were so good at all that his production would reflect it. He gave his team 11 ppg on poor efficiency. At some point the results have back up what you think you're good at.

Because I'm looking at him as a prospect rather than a finished product. Brown has good touch at the rim and can finish with either hand. He can shoot mid-range jum[pers, and he can shoot from 3. His college percentages are mediocre, but he projects to be a 3-level scorer.

Another thing I'm looking at is the fact that he's only one year removed from high school where he played point guard and, more often than not, played with the ball in his hands. He had no trouble driving all the way to the rim and scored most of his points in the paint. Now he's being asked to play off the ball and spot up on the wing. It's a different role and something he's not accustomed to. There's no reason to expect he won't be able to make the transition to playing the wing full time, but he needs to develop that aspect of his game.

So basically he's young, was good against 16 year olds and might improve. That's fair and if the jazz pick him, i hope you're right.

I can't decide whether that's good or bad for a prospect under consideration at 21
It's good. He just needs to not be mentally feeble. That's what undid Rodney this year. He was on a path to a 60-70M contract. It's great if you get that type of player in the 20s.

Hood's been weak for most of his career. That's more academic than relevant information, but he missed as many games in earlier years, and he was pissed about getting played out of the starting lineup when it happened.

Best 3 level scorer in the draft is Jerome Robinson. And his production actually backs up that claim.

Even if he is the best scorer (and he isn’t), he’s gonna give up what he gets.

He’s a good player on a bad team, but I don’t think he’d be a good player on a good team. Marshon Brooks could score like crazy too. Didn’t get him far.

Tell that to the team picking at 15.

PER of 26 for Memphis last year on 60% TS for Marshon.

Nah, Charlotte just showed that they are fine sucking *** through 2019/20. Thats when Marvin, MKG, and Mozgov come off the books.

If I had to guess, Charlotte would trade #11 straight up somebody took Batum off their hands.

You’d take on that much money for the 11th pick which will most likely at best be a starting role player, and take any chance away from Mitchell recruiting a star? We ain’t trading that contract in the remote possibility Paul George told Mitchell yes.
Love Brown’s upside, but he’s not a “win now” pick - which is completely fine with me. Jazz need some upside coming off the bench.
Could end up plugging him into Ingles role in a few years when his production starts going down as he gets older
Poor shooting, can't really put it on the floor. Mediocre defensively, mediocre athlete, mediocre to poor ball handling, only decent length for his height, mediocre production coming out of Oregon. Really, if the jazz draft him, I'll have to hang my hat on his passing and just hope he can improve everywhere else, because he's doesnt really have much else to like at this point.
I’m not sure you’ve ever watched Troy Brown play? He played pg in high school he played some point at Oregon? How is it that he can’t put it on the floor? And every scouting video I’ve ever seen with Brown suggests he’s above average defender. He’s also 6/7 210 lb’s at the young age of 18. That body will fill out nicely allowing him to guard 4 positions. Again he’s 18, he may not have shot the three ball well, but shooting is an area that’s easily improved. It’s nnot like he’s Simmons bad where he didn’t dare even attempting one three not against the shot or game clock. There is a lot to like about Brown.

We know how well it goes when FO folk go to SoCal to meet with players.

I was in the car for just a minute and thought I heard sports radio guys saying Kawai is telling everyone I want out of San Antonio and if I don't get traded to the Lakers I will sign there next offseason so don't waste your time trading for me.

They only thing Kawai hasn't done to the Spurs is key RC Buford's car and leave a log in Pop's office.
