Mario Hezonja - perfect fit?

I can't see a team offering super Mario any more then the MLE and the Jazz will have that to offer.

At 6'8" he can play either the 3 or the 4 and had some of his best games filling in for an injured Aaron Gordon.

Sefelosha is going to have a hard time coming back from a knee injury at his age and may not be back to form any time soon.

I could see Hezonjo getting 20 to 25 minutes a night back up the pf and the SF.

I’d be down for that, but prefer to keep Favors as the starting PF.

Don’t want to have to count on him as a season long starter. Favors is a known quantity.

Hezonja is nice in that he could play with pretty much any combination of Gobert, Favors, Crowder and Jingles at the other two spots. I like the versatility.

Only on a flier deal. MLE is way, way, way above anything I'd consider spending. Let's bear in mind that this team is signaling it's real intention on being players in free agency in the coming years*. And by players, I don't mean spending serious money on guys that most signs point to not being very good in the hopes that they become very good.

* via Mitchell's work this offseason and what Locke has been saying (turns out he leaks real **** with some frequency), in addition to that it makes some sense.

I'm not so sure he can play PF. But I wouldn't mind if we signed him. He's only 23. He fits the timeline of our core. I feel like our coaching and development could do a great job developing a player like Mario.

What has he been saying?

That the Jazz are serious about being players in free agency. I don't have a quote, but he's mentioned it several times.

Between right now and when Mitchell's extension is up, they have the potential to have serious cap room every offseason.

Oh ok. I’ve heard that. Just thought I’d missed something.

Thanks.

If the Jazz are spending any money money around the MLE, it has to be on sure-fire rotation players that got squeezed out of a bigger contract in free agency (like this offseason, where there isn't much cap to go around). Hezonja is not one of those players.

At below half the MLE, I think you can start to have a reasonable conversation about it.

Who would you guy's rather have, Hezonja or Bjelica? I think I'd rather go after Hezonja, he's younger and can play two positions. On the other hand Bjelica has been a much better 3 point shooter. Which one would you rather use the MLE on?

Well, you can say you are going to be serious about free agency all you want, doesnt mean its going to work out. Dallas has been real serious too and look where its got them. You still need players to want to come here.

I would love to sign Hezonja.

Here is my thinking. Just like how we aquired Donovan and Rudy, we probably will have to do the same to fill the team around them. Like how we have got Rubio, Ingles, and O'Neal. We have to have some luck on our side and some savy scouting of undervalued players. We arent tanking, and we probably arent getting the big free agent either. So that next good player we get will have to be another undervalued player with some question marks. There is probably no way around this.

What is and who is Mario Hezonja? He is a high lottery pick who basically hasnt been given much of a chance to prove himself mostly because of depth issues and bad management by the team he was on. He is still young. He has potential still. He has shown signs of being good when given the chance. He is also a unrestricted free agent. Its the perfect combination of score another undervalued player.

Not everyone who is given up on by there team is a loser. There are plenty of examples of this. Its amazing how people keep losing sight of this fact.

You cant just go around targeting only the obvious choices that everyone else sees, and buying high on everyone. You are going to have to take a chance and a gamble on someone.

Sure, Signing Lebron, Leonard, or George would be great, but if there is no reality in that, lets move on from the pipe dream and come up with a different plan.
