2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

Since 2017-18 season Conley is 8-14 against Harden, Westbrook, Lillard and Curry.

He is 2-5 against Ball and Dearon Fox.

He is not beating the current top dogs in the west, nor is he beating the next gen.

So why give away a pile of your current and future assets to pay his over bloated contract? Besides with Exum and Neto we already have a stable of injury prone pgs.

Lebron James vs Curry in that span 1-10. Scrub...

Conley is a solid PG, functionally on par with Kyle Lowry and probably Kemba Walker. He's a top 8 - 10 PG in the league, imo. He's overlooked because he plays in Memphis.

The Jazz would still be looking to add a long, two-way scoring wing, but with Conley/Mitchell/Ingles/Crowder/Gobert, that's a very solid core. That's a top-4 team in the west this year and next.

Can Conley help us get better? Yes. But by how much is the question. Portland has already shown us the ceiling of two 6‘1” small guards paring in the backcourt during last year‘s playoff. To go further in the playoffs, what we need is a big guard who can cover the grounds for the lack of size in Mitchell. Conley is hell of a player and he can help the majority of the playoff teams win right now, but as for the Jazz and Mitchell, Jrue Holiday/Thomas Satoransky are the better fit in this case.

I doubt it. Maybe his impact improves if Conley is the PG in some Favors center lineups.

His minutes will be less harmful with Gobert, but I don't know if they will be more impactful, if that makes sense. I think the minutes splits would remain largely the same.
A better PG makes everyone else better. I also miss closing out games with a good old Ingles - Fav pick and roll.
I was high on Rubio before the season but he should be upgraded when there is a an opportunity. Alternatively Fav is replaced with a stretch-4 and Rubio is resigned cheaply.

We have a near zero track record of acquiring star players.

We’ve attracted one major player via free agency in like 30 years. Boozer. Who grew up in Alaska and was a huge Malone fan.

Players just don’t come to Utah. Need to get Conley when we can.

Have we even been in the market for a star since Boozer?

Scottie Pippen just said that Zion Williamson is the best prospect since Michael Jordan. Um... hot take. Very hot. Made me laugh out loud. Anthony Davis? LeBron James? AI? I mean I like Zion but, no.

Guess what? Satoransky is a solid point guard who can also play the "long, two-way scoring wing”. He’s one of the many reasons Wiz turned their season around after yet another John Wall injury.
