2019 Trade Deadline Discussion

The Miami Heat trade pick is an elite asset. Clippers got super lucky.
Don't know about lucky, but I like this deal for both teams I think.

Philly's play is obvious and Harris helps them in a ton of ways. Bit of a price, but they are seriously scary. Assuming Harris stays that is.

West did a Lindsey here. He probably felt Harris wasn't going to re-sign with them and decided to get some assets. Good ones he got to. The Clips are going to be in a good position to either get after Davis or rebuild in a hurry. Sucks for their fans, but what can you do?

Lmao.

Don't be daft man.

The Miami Heat are in cap hell and are potentially a garbage team in 2021. That's an elite draft pick. Utah would have to trade Mitchell if they want to beat that.
You mocked me for suggesting we send a similar trade package for Harris because you said Harris wasn't available. Don't hide behind the Miami pick. Own you were wrong and move on.

I would be surprised if the Clippers are done. Their playoff hopes are probably shot now, and if they can get picks/expirings for Gallo, Beverly, Lou, they could be set for free agency and the AD sweepstakes this summer (or AD now already).
Great post.

I think Williams, Beverley, Gallo and Bradley are now on the trade block. They probably keep Williams due to that sweet cheap deal though.

And some of you guys mocked me for saying we should try to trade for Tobias Harris.

Good trade for both sides. Big gamble for Philly if Tobias just leaves, but I doubt that happens unless Butler punches him in the face or something in practice.

The Clippers got Shamet so they could conceivably trade SGA and a package of expirings and picks to NOLA for AD.

Finding a team willing to give two unprotected first, with one being a potential #1 overall pick, for a 2nd/3rd tier max player on an expiring UFA deal, is extremely lucky.

The Tobias dream is officially over. I now hope we get Conley even more.
In a way I think its more likely now in free agency.

Granted I thought it was like 5% likely in free agency before, now its like 8%. Getting someone to leave Philly is a lot easier than getting them to leave LA.

So i have seen people say the jazz should do a first for saric and for gallo but not for niko. Is that just cause niko is a free agent this summer but the other two guys are not or do are saric and gallo that much better than niko?

The Philly 2020 pick is protected. The Miami 2021 pick is unprotected.

Our 2019 1st is better than the Philly 2020 1st. The Miami 1st looks better than ours, but you never know. Plus Philly threw in 2 2nds.

I would argue that we could have offered our 2019 1st, 2021 1st, 2 2nds AND taken Gallanari to give the Clippers an even better deal.

The only difference is that we are in the West. Maybe they wanted to send him East.

Lmao. You can't argue that our pick is better than Miami's, stop.

No, it happens when you use 5 draft picks (2 for Burke, then Exum, Hill and Rubio) trying to get a PG and end up with one who can't shoot consistently and one who hasn't proven much except in the eyes of a few staunch homeboys. It also happens when you sell pick after pick instead of finding a few rotation players in the 2nd round. It happens when you have a ton of cap space year after year but don't sign any free agents that could later be tradeable assets. Don't blame Hayward. I hate the guy, but a lot saw that coming. And very few GM's arrange for trade exceptions when they're about to sign free agents.

The blame is squarely on the back of Lindsey for wasting a ton of assets, for not doing a proper rebuild by keeping Utah in the late lottery for all but the Exum pick. And for keeping Utah at or near the bottom for payroll for 4 years running. And this past summer...had a chance to use the MLE. But instead signed Niang who is not a prospect. And instead of getting Niko, kept the pick and drafted Allen, who also has pretty much zero trade value.
In the big picture Utah has two young stars and zero bad contracts and a bright future. Anyway they couldn't compete with PHI who overpaid for Harris.

Miami isn't a destination. They were a destination when they had a superstar. They were such a destination they had to overpay a ton of bench players.

This is probably a bad take but I really like Simmons/Harris/Embiid more than Simmons/Butler/Harris/Embiid. Butler seems like such an odd man out in that group, particular with how poor his shooting has been lately.

They are still a playoff team this year even though their All Star PG was hurt all year. What is Miami's pick and what is ours this year? About the same right? Whats to say its that much different in 2021?

I agree 100%. I think Butler might get traded. If not, he might not get kept. Harris fits Embiid, Simmons and Redick so well.

Wouldn't be shocked if they traded him, but yeah, I'd be surprised if they keep all 4 long term.

Wonder who is going to be the priority. Butler is a lot better than Harris, but Harris fits in a lot more easily than Butler

Daft? Never seen that word used by anyone other than drunk Brits before.

Unless they get another player similar or better than Harris, I genuinely doubt they "are" applies anymore. West is either is gambling for AD or is cashing it in to #TrustTheProcess. And unless another LBJ/Bosh/DWade thing happens in the next few years for Miami, their pick will be better in the future. Simple as. As it currently stands, Miami's pick is about 5 or 6 slots better right now.
