Their goal as I understand is to remain in second, have Portland take third and Houston 4th. Then assuming all the higher seeds win they would face Portland in the second round and Houston would end up with GS.

They are playing with fire a little though, this loss means that Houston could end up taking the 2nd seed, costing Denver home court in a potential second round match up.
