KOC could draft Michael Jordan and people on this board would find ways to complain.

Folks, the Jazz got the 2 best players available when they drafted while also covering needs. The Jazz made out like very few teams did on draft night.
Yet, you morons complain.

I'm really trying to have some guarded optimism with Burks because I know how hard it is to find a future all-star at the #12 spot,

A #12 who was originally projected as high as #6.

Why did he fall during the workouts? Is it because of the bruised shoulder? Maybe Fredette and Walker just had better workouts?

Anyway, I'm not going to make a value judgement without seeing him play - and I feel pretty confident that he's going to make some kind of contribution. But maybe he's the "Best Wing in the Draft" not because he's a stud but because, well, the draft wasn't all that good.

I'm taking the 2 year approach. 19 year olds are rarely ready for regular time. Add to that, he was a primary ball handler in college and there is likely going to be an adjustment to playing off the ball. If he can just win a job on the second unit and play well enough to stay out there I'll be thrilled. If he can do more than that at 19 we could have a real steal.

I'm really trying to have some guarded optimism with Burks because I know how hard it is to find a future all-star at the #12 spot, but I REALLY like his potential. Just my opinion, but I think the only thing lacking in his entire game is the 3point shooting and I have to think Hornacek can help him improve upon that. This isn't a Ronnie Brewer scenario in which you've got an unorthodox shooting motion, etc. Burks seems to have a nice stroke, the shots just don't fall. That's where a good shooting coach and a committment to improve your game can make a world of difference.

Where does Burks go in this draft if he's an above average 3point shooter? My guess is top 5 or 6 considering everything else he brings to the table. If he can indeed improve his shooting, Utah just got a steal.

I am not too concerned about his 3pt shooting because most of what I have read is that when he pulls up on his jumpshot, he is off balance and his shoulders aren't squared to the rim, so his shot is taken off balance. That won't be a problem in Utah, because most of his threes will be him with his feet planted as the ball is rotated around to him in the corner, or off a post player passing out of a double team. Even if he is a future all-star, he won't be asked to do much his first couple of years. I don't know if shoots as well as Gordon, but as he gets stronger and runs the offense properly, I think his %'s will rise fast.

Burks seems to have enough intelligence to learn and adapt. In NCAA he was asked to fill a particular role, which involved getting to the rim the majority of the time. Give him a little time and he will find a great niche with the Jazz either improving outside or continuing the slashing.
The next couple of years are going to be exciting! So many options with all this youth. I don't think any of us really know what the Jazz will look like (either the roster or the system) a year or two from now. With the new talent bringing a different skill-set we may have to take on a totally different look than the Sloan system.

People have been ripping him ever since he was drafted. People bitching about not drafting a tweener like Leonard or not trading up for Jimmer. The mere fact that we have people in this thread refuting the Brewer comparisons show how ridiculous the Burk hate has become.

At #12, Burks was a no brainer.

I honestly don't see any hate. There was a very few amount that wanted to trade up and get Jimmer, but there is nothing wrong with them thinking that. Just b/c you don't like their opinion doesn't mean they are hating

Burks' ability to pass the ball was more greatly valued than his 3-point shooting by the Jazz. Jazz brass has said this skill is what convinced them to take him at #12. Other teams apparently were more hung up on his 3-point shooting failures and let it overshadow his other skills, like driving to the basket and getting to the FT line, which is far superior to the 2 SG's taken just before him...
