Was KOC really happy when he didn't have to decide on Jimmer?

I was reading this article on NBA.com this morning, which reiterated what the talking heads said on draft night. Basically: that KOC was happy that he didn't have to make the choice of whether or not to draft Jimmer at 12. While I do imagine that this statement could be true, how does anyone actually know? I haven't read anything or seen anything out of Jazz HQ (and I imagine that I wouldn't -- them being who they are) that has indicated anything of the sort. Only media speculation. Is it possible that KOC was disappointed (as many in Jazz Nation were) that Jimmer was snagged just before the Jazz had a chance at him at 12 and took Alec Burks as a consolation prize?
 
This is surely a moot point. No, nobody can actually know whether or not KOC was happy that Jimmer didn't fall. It did however take a massive amount of pressure off him to pick him, we will probably never know whether he wanted him or not, but if he was there at #12 a lot of people would have wanted us to pick him whether or not the franchise wanted/needed him. It also took a load of pressure off of Jimmer because he doesn't have to save his home franchise etc. I doubt he would have ever lived up to the expectations that would have been put on him had he come here (no matter how good he becomes). And as for saying Alec Burks was a consolation prize, well personally I think Burks should have gone higher so if I was KOC and Jimmer and Burks were both sitting there I would have taken Burks - Best player available that also fits a need.
 
Burks has a high ceiling. Hope he reaches it. And since Fredette likes Utah the Jazz can always try and grab him as a FA, after he's gone thru some growing pains in Sacramento learning to be a PG AND after his 15 minutes of skyrocketed popularity have come back down to earth a bit.

The Jazz aren't where they need to be yet, but they're moving in the right direction. Patience.
 
Very good points Bentley. As an unabashed Jimmer fan, I'm hoping that the scenario you mentioned does indeed play out. I'm with the many who've criticized the Kings for drafting someone who, like Tyreke Evans, needs the ball in order to maximize his effectiveness. I think, even though I believe that Jimmer will become a very good NBA player, that the Kings will not be the right fit for him. I'm hoping that the Jazz will be once his stint with SacTown is over.
 
KOC said Jimmer was in the Jazz's top ten. He didn't say if Burks was too or who was rated higher.

Why do you care if the kings took jimmer? That is just crazy. The kings do have a tremendous need for jimmers outside shooting. If you think jimmer is going to dominate the ball as he did in college you have another thing comming.

KOC did say that Burks was in their top ten as well. Take both of these statments with a grain of salt as all GMs will say that the guy they got was higher on their draft board than where they were picked. And he also avoids backlash by not stating that they would have taken Burks or anyone else on the board ahead of Jimmer.
 
I'm glad I saw this thread, I was missing the Jimmer threads.
KOC was probably glad he didn't have to decide, and disappointed at the same time.
If Jimmer turns out to be a stud, I'm sure he would have wished he could have drafted him.
It's always easier to leave the tough decisions to someone else.
 
We will just have to wait around next month to find out when Randy Rigby does his rounds of home teaching.
 
Corbin did say on JRIB the other day that there was some disagreements on Jimmer within the FO. He did say Jim mer was top 10 though. He didn't say who was for or against picking him but he did seem to think it made it easier that he was gone. Also, prob better for him, much less pressure in Sac.
