MLB All-Time Fantasy Draft

Well-Known Member
We each draft:

*8 position players
*a DH
*two pinch hitters
*three starting pitchers (as if it’s a playoff series)
*two relievers
*four wildcards (could relievers, starters, or another position player/bat)
*one manager
*one ballpark

That’s 22 rounds. Ballparks might seem odd to some but teams in real life are generally formed with the ballparks in mind, to some degree. Any player, manager or ballpark can be drafted in any round.

Similar to how we form our NBA draft teams, we’re using peak players. Obviously though longevity comes into play some. With the team you form, HOW WOULD IT DO IN A SEVEN GAME SERIES?

As always, there’s a 24 hour time limit. And we can trade. Let’s begin.

FYI, we won’t start until the completion of the current NBA Draft and playoffs...so in about 2-3 weeks probably.

I understand that baseball exists, and some dude pitched really well on LSD. Other than that...

Oh. Joe DiMaggio was married to Marilyn Monroe and left flowers on her grave every week until he died.

Should be more than 1 1/2 position players on the bench. Today's game pitchers don't last as long. Need more bench players for that reason. I'd say 3 bench and 6 total pitchers if you don't want to do a full 25 man roster.

I’ll fully admit to not being very baseball knowledgeable, but I’m pretty sure I can at least keep from embarrassing myself.

I’m in.

Not for me. I think baseball barely qualifies as a "sport" and is 2nd only to soccer in boring. And I played baseball for 2 years in high school.

Baseball is definitely the most boring sport. I can tolerate Soccer. I’m willing to learn about baseball history as we do this though. I’m also interested to see the final draft board.

While I appreciate the invite, I'm even worse at fantasy baseball than at fantasy basketball. And as those of you who remember when @dalamon invited me to Ugly's Yahoo basketball thing, I'm pretty freaking terrible.

Oh, but I can remember most of the batting lineup of the late 90s Braves because my sister watched Family Matters and Full House on Superstation and would leave the TV on after. I don't know if that would help in this fantasy draft, though.

Not fantasy just a bunch of guys selecting any baseball player you want to form a team. It’s fun.

If this was soccer related, I would be in. Baseball sucks.

People that dont get soccer usually say that it's because there isnt enough scoring. If you got 7 points for a goal would it somehow be better? I mean, in football you get 3 points just for kicking the ball over a stick when you have 10 people blocking for you when you kick AND you get to back up the ball 20 yards from the nearest defender... that's considered a terrible shot in soccer where you typically have to kick that ball while on the move into a 3 foot window, 20 yards away with a goalie trying to block it.

If a field goal is worth 3 points then goals should be worth 30 points each. Would that somehow make the sport better? Nah.

Besides, Football games are usually is usually 3 - 4 or 4 - 6 or 2 - 0 (multiplied by 7). So it is only slightly higher scoring than soccer. In football a 48 minute game usually has less than 12 minutes of actual game play. Soccer is closer to 60 minutes of action with 30 minutes of setup and fouls.

I will get off my rant. I need more sports in my life. Until then, I am out on the baseball thing. Baseball truly sucks.
