SALT LAKE CITY — Following the lead of some other NBA teams, the Utah Jazz announced on Friday morning that Vivint Arena, as well as some Megaplex Theatres (both of which are owned by Gail Miller) will be used as voting locations on Election Day, Nov. 3.
The move is part of an NBA-wide effort to encourage people to vote.
“Our sports and entertainment venues are familiar community gathering places, and we are pleased to join with the Salt Lake County Election Division to provide four facilities as safe, convenient and accessible voting locations on Election Day,” Miller said in a statement.
Beside Vivint Arena, Megaplex Luxury Theatres at Cottonwood in Holladay, Megaplex Theatres at The District in South Jordan and Megaplex Theatres at Jordan Commons in Sandy will be available as voting locations.
“Exercising our right to vote allows us to share our voice and to act to preserve our rights and freedoms,” Miller said in her statement. “We hope the use of our facilities provides voters with greater poll access and that the voter experience meets the highest standards of safety, security and election integrity.”
While the Jazz have been in the NBA’s “bubble” in Orlando for nearly two months, voting has been a major topic of conversation. Earlier this month while talking about a shirt he was wearing with a quote from the late Rep. John Lewis on it, Utah head coach Quin Snyder said, “We talk about ‘good trouble.’ That’s something that guys are conscious of and trying to make a difference in many ways, but particularly with voting.”
