What's new

NON-JAZZ NBA PLAYOFF thread

It was predictable that we’d need another wing defender. We got lucky as hell that Royce stayed out of foul trouble. Niang is a situational playoff player... we decided he was a rotation staple. He didn’t get benched because we really had no options... we should have had options. Guys were out there... this isn’t a new need... we got lit the **** up last year in the playoffs. We decided to look the other way... it was dumb AF.
I agree it was obvious we needed a better wing defender. We had Harrison he didn't play. Our FO thought oni would be the answer. Niang was pretty solid on defense but not really at the wing. I don't think Craig is the right fit here at all. We need to address it. Sadly I think Exum would have been very useful for us this playoffs series.

Either way we need to make some trades we have too many unathletic defenders. They thought Rudy could cover everyone and he could in certain schemes but not in all.

Even if they lose it won’t be because they didn’t have options. We flat out just didn’t prepare like we should.
Ayton has dominated this series, and the Clippers outscored Phoenix 34-8 in the paint in the 1st half tonight.

I mean... That should tell you everything you need to know about what happened tonight.

Wait Exum would have been good for us but not Craig? What about Craig isn’t a good fit... he can literally do the Oni on offense and he’s an improvement on what we had.

Shaq had a slow start with the broken hand but they also viewed him as a point guard. He’s an offball player... even he would have been an improvement because Niang shot the ball so poorly.

I’m kinda sick of people thinking a normal basketball player who has fit I. Multiple situations can’t fit here... like we play with square balls or some ****.

These are the type of guys who call Tucker and Craig washed. They don’t get it.
Don’t forget that pat bev is washed... I mean if he’s so good why’d they bench him in the Dallas series.

The same applies to buyout guys... those guys never help ever.

BUT THE STATS… Fish killed us in this thread.

Craig is terrible and so is Tucker. What do they do that Niang doesn’t?

It’s also an opinion not a fact apparently that Craig and Tucker would have helped us massively against the Clippers. I mean Craig won one game for the Suns already and Tucker helped the Bucks beat the Nets but they don’t fit our system and are clearly washed. Niang is a way better fit and just had a couple off games. He was great in the regular season though!

All this **** matters... we can’t say small things don’t... quick example... “lolz drafting Bane over Udoka doesn’t matter... neither guy will play this year lolz”. Well guess who played in game 1 of the Memphis series and swing that game? Desmond Bane...

“Lolz that doesn’t matter we won the series 4-1” yup we did and had we swept we might have had a healthy Mike Conley for round 2 (no guarantees... butterfly effect and all that). A healthy Mike Conley likely wins is the clips series. The details matter. We ****ed up the details in a way that is unacceptable imo... sorry if you disagree.

It’s actually crazy how one simple move such a drafting Bane over Dok or trading for Craig instead of Thomas could have made a huge difference against the Clippers.

I think Craig doesn't want to be in Utah. I think his personality along with not wanting to be here would be a bad fit. On paper he would be pretty good here in a small role we could use. I could be wrong, that's just my opinion based on what he has said in the past.

I don't know what happened with Shaq. Either he isn't very good or Snyder doesn't like him are the best answers. I was very hopeful for him and shocked when we let him go.

All players don't fit in all systems though, especially role players. It's not a Jazz thing it happens all the time in the NBA. A guy is good in multiple places and then doesn't fit in for many reasons. Then the next team he's back to normal.

How the hell do you know his personality and if he would or wouldn’t like it here? I didn’t know we could just make **** up and pass it off as something remotely true. He played in Denver the. Signed in Milwaukee.... but yeah gtfoh Utah.

It's just my opinion like 99% of everything on this message board. You are allowed to form opinions on things based on whatever you want, just like you do. My opinion is based on his racial issues and rumors about why he left Denver.

Ron also said G-ward wasn't leaving 100% cause of the money.

He left Denver because they didn’t give him a deal. He was upset they didn’t offer him a contract. It’s one thing to have an opinion... it’s another to pick **** out of the sky.

I don't think Craig would have liked being traded here and it would not have gone well. I also doubt he gets minutes here regardless based on Snyder's history. We picked up a supposedly amazing wing defender who didn't play and got cut as well this season.
Ya and I mean if Craig's skill is defense and playing hard then I'm pretty sure Forrest could do that.

Game 2 Craig had zero points, zero rebounds, zero assists, and 2 fouls in his 11 minutes.
I have no idea how the suns still managed to win.
I don't know where the jazz or any team could find a guy like that.

Fact is that Craig comes in and plays hard for 10 minutes per game and plays good defense. That's a good thing. I don't think it's that hard to find though. Oni could play hard for 10 minutes per game. So could forest. Occasionally each of those guys could score a few points and grab a few rebounds too. Most players in the NBA could achieve that lofty goal.

Game three. 1-4 from the field. 4 points. 1 rebound. I know, I know. He played amazing defense that game I'm sure and shut down his man. What he does is simply unmeasurable statistically. It's too impressive to quantify so it can't show up in measurable way. It's truly and literally off the charts.

Plus I mean in that game 4 defensive battle when the suns held the clippers to 80 points we all know that Craig made a huge difference. Sure his stats of literally zero everything except 1 foul weren't good but his defense was the reason the clippers only scored 80 points.
TORREY CRAIG PLAYED 19 SECONDS IN GAME 4 AND WAS A NEGATIVE 5. Lol. Let's just overlook that game though. Such a integral part of the team yet one of the best coaches in the league only played him 19 SECONDS in an extremely close defensive battle. Yet somehow the suns still won and had their best defensive game of the entire playoffs.

He played 3 minutes in game 1 against the Lakers. 4 minutes in game 2.

2 things I noticed going through all the playoff games this year for the suns regarding Craig:
1. For the most part, the closer the game the less minutes Craig plays (weird that suns coach would play him less in close games because he is so important in determining wins and losses).
2. He seems to have very little impact on much of anything. Some games he basically didn't play at all and the suns won. Some games he played lots and the suns lost. And vice versa. Some games he played pretty well and the suns lost. Some games he played like crap and the suns won and vice versa.

How could they have not given him a deal? He's freaking Torrey Craig for gods sake.
