If Doke can outplay him in practice and earn more backup minutes, then that would be awesome and ideal. Right now though, Whiteside is a win now upgrade if he can block shots and rebound like he used to. A second unit of Ingles, Butler, JC, Gay, and Whiteside is a much stronger rotation than we had with Niang/Favors.
As for all the **** talking and competitive banter that went on between Gobert and Whiteside in the past. It is in the past, so it's time to get behind the dude who could help us turn the paint into a 'Warning - trespassers will be blocked' zone for 48 minutes a night.
Clearly he didn't sign a vet minimum thinking he could beat Gobert for the starter position. I'm optimistic that he understands why he's here and he'll step up as needed. The dude could easily average 8 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 blocks a night as a back up to Rudy.
