2021 NBA Draft Preview (new thread)

If Utah did this you'd be spiting fire. I don't think you understand the whole picture for NOLA ( i mostly hate it for them and think its solid for Memphis).

For NOLA to use the cap space they just cleared by moving back and giving up a first they have to waive Ball's caphold making him unrestricted. To get Lowry they likely have to go one more step and waive Hart's caphold. Lowry is the guy they want by all reports.

So the trade is Ball, Hart, moving back 7 spots, LAL first for Lowry and an upgrade from Adams to JV. They may get to keep Hart if Lowry can't get an offer over $25M a year.

If you hated the Conley move for us then you should likely hate this one too.
To return to this. I think NOLA actually drafted better than Memphis (that Ziaire/Aldini picks were reaches imo and NOLA got Murphy), but damn, NOLA has been AWFUL in free agency.

Both teams lost the trade, but I think NOLA might be losing harder.

Because they replaced Lonzo (4 years $85 million) with Graham (4 years $47)?

That's AWFUL?

It's horrendous beyond words.

Their defense just went from trash to absolute garbage bottom of the barrel dumpster fire.
NOLA screwed up last summer with the Adams deal and they are slowing cleaning it up. They still have 3 or 4 extra first round picks the next handful of drafts. They have a bunch of young guys in NAW, Hayes, Kira Lewis, and their recently drafted guys. JV and Graham make that team better than Lonzo and Adams.

They have cap space and they have picks and they have youth. They are one big move away from being very dangerous for a long time.

Lol you are so over dramatic and stupid sometimes.
Yes, I'm being overdramatic about going with an undersized chucker who plays no D and scores at a suboptimal efficiency being paired with a team that plays no defense by taking your team's previous best defender off and replacing him with a god awful one.

Words cant describe how bad NOLA has ****ed this up. @Handlogten's Heros was right

Being this right about Franz Wagner kind of tight.

I think the Draymond comp for Herb Jones is pretty spot on. Many similarities there. Maybe not personality, but many others. Style for sure. Will be interesting if Jones can hit that ceiling.

Whoever gets Jones is gonna get a contributor.

This aged quite well. Wish you would’ve been making our draft selections. Jones right now would be contributing. Instead we have butler who’s… I don’t know doing something else? I don’t think I’ve seen him for a few weeks.

Crazy to watch that highlight video then go back and see Lopo and Wesmantooth calling Franz a non-athlete.
Yeah, it’s pretty funny to read some of the dumb posts people have made in the past. For example:

Herb Jones a choke artist lmao. I was so embarrassed for him in the UCLA game. Big time case of the yips
Dude is a stud and we’d be a better team right now with him instead of with Butler.

Unfortunately true, but if only because Butler is another redundancy in our organization and I feel being punished for expecting more. We have a bad habit of drafting what we perceive to be best available instead of drafting to need. Hopefully the addition of Ainge changes things in that regard as well as bringing more and better scrutiny to the evaluation process.

Perhaps.

But I also have questions about Butler’s size, athleticism, and ball handling skills. To me, he reminds me a lot of Ice Trey Burke.

Herb Jones at least has an nba body and athleticism. Wish we’d concentrate more on size and athleticism tbh.

you're jumping the gun. I mean, I seriously doubt you've been watching Pel's games at all. And it's a very different thing to find a niche on the Pels than the Jazz right now.

There's a very realistic alternate reality where Butler is lighting it up for, say, the Pacers or some ish like that.

I hope you’re right but it seems to me like Herbert has nba size, athleticism, and defense while we aren’t sure if Butler has any NBA skill or athleticism yet. Perhaps we should try and see with Mitchell out? Or will we continue to see Forrest play ahead of butler? I thought we were going to try and rest Conley for the playoffs yet I don’t remember the lady b2b we played where Conley was sat?

We can’t have it both ways. We can’t keep saying that Butler has talent but then never play him (while playing lesser talented players ahead of him) while discounting the success of players we could’ve drafted.
