Game Thread Apr 21, 2022 07:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Mavericks - Game 3

Added to Calendar: 04-21-22

The second time paschall came back in Royce and Conley were in too. There's the problem.
And? There were plenty of players for Mavs to attack at the first time. Mitchell and Paschall for example. They called a timeout and we went basket for basket for a while, they started their isos earlier and crashed the glass. That it was unsustainable was plain as ****. And it turned out to be unsustainable.

We actually played the same switch all D once Rudy came back, he got matched up with Brunson twice. One basket, one miss then they went to Dinwiddie who had 2 easy baskets over Mitchell. Paschall being in there wouldn't change a thing.

Conley had a good game offensively but there is no one that he can guard. My biggest problem with the Conley trade was knowing how small our backcourt would be. It's just way too small.
Royce just sucks
My biggest problem with Conley is that we paid a steep price for a PG who's not even ranked top 15 in his position, meaning every game we play there's more than 50% chance he's out-matched. It was supposed to be Conley guarding Brunson but due to him being outmatched, we had to give Brunson the full Luka treatment by putting our two strongest perimeter defenders Royce/House on him. Then who's gonna guard Luka once he comes back? If we put House on Brunson and Royce on Luka, then Conley has to go.

Remember House was waived by the tanking Rockets then got dumped around after only getting a total of 3min worth of PT from Thibodeau. 3 MINUTES. Now all of sudden he's become the savior of our perimeter defense?

Like I said, the talent issue on this Jazz team is REAL. Our players simply aren't good enough to compete against other top level teams. And the 2019 trade which we spent a lot of assets and good players in exchange for mediocre PG had a lot to do with that.

Quin SNyder has coached #1 defensive teams in the past. Is it more likely he doesnt emphasize defense or the roster he has cant play defense?

Just get rid of everyone to be safe. There is a stench from this that can't be undone. Everything has to go.

idk I hate change and am trying to justify not blowing up a team that a year ago at this time I thought might be a contender.

I'm done with quin. I was pretty much done with him after the clippers series but tonight was the nail in the coffin.
#bringbackcorbin. At least he could make an adjustment to his tie.
We started to suck when Quin ditched the suit and tie. Kidd also dresses like trash on the sideline... So idk

Kleber is 14-18 from 3 in the last two games.

Brunson is averaging 32.5 pts, 5 assists, and is shooting 49 % FG and 50 % from 3 in this playoff series.
That **** is nuts.
Reminds of Terrence Mann

I have literally been saying this for years now - Mitchell has a talent that translates to the playoffs. Rudy does not.

We can't hide Don on defense like GS hides Curry and Brooklyn hides Kyrie.

We need perimeter defenders

Dude I wanna give you the thumbs up but I can’t you just got such a massive man crush on Mitchell it’s ridiculous! Kyrie plays better defense than Mitchell does. Conley plays better D than Mitchell does. Brunson plays better D than Mitchell does. I really hate to say it but he can’t move those damn dogs because they’re too big!

Bucket O'Neal.
Lol. He should not have been starting the like the last 4 years. So bad
It's so strange he has gotten so much burn and became a starter. Really makes you wonder where the Jazz went wrong in drafts, free agency, trades, player development, etc. that has resulted in Royce O'Neale playing a significant amount of time in the playoffs and regular season when he is so god-awful on offense and consistently gets cooked like fried chicken.

The Jazz really couldn't find anyone better than him? Dennis Lindsay set this franchise back 5 years.

We were awesome with a lineup of Mitchell, Clarkson, house, bogey, and paschall. We should have used the lineup that was awesome more often and the lineups that weren't awesome less often imo.

Gobert is being negated largely because the Jazz main offensive players are content with terrible offensive possessions. There is no ball movement no drive and kick. It's all very tough shots.

The wild thing is that Utah actually played good offense. They made a ton of shots and FT's. Utah's ability to make tough shots is really incredible this year. A lot of props to Bogey/Don/Clarkson. But they have traded that for generating less easy shots.

Their defense is just ***.

Gobert has been largely useless in this series, but a good deal of that is due to the fact that his teammates arent letting him succeed on defense with how bad their effort is.

That awesome line-up was getting put to shed. It was just that we made some baskets and the pace picked up but Mavs were gaining ground anyways. Trying to change momentum again wasn't a bad bet and since going to it the second time didn't work out, it was justifiable.

I disagree. Gobert takes up a **** ton of space on offense and is easily schemed out by players sagging off / hedging the lob. Because they can do this, it drastically removes any spacing for our perimeter players to attack the paint. He can't punish small ball. Which is what a Jokic or Embiid do.

I see Don as the most exciting Jazz player I have ever watched live. He is entertainment and this whole thing is about entertainment.

Yes his defense sucks, but we have him stuck next to an undersized poor defender, struggling Royce and pathetic Bojan. Add in that the Rudy system sucks.

Then on offense, Don wants to attack the rim but he can't because Rudy's guy is clogging the lane.

I mean, it's not hard to see what great teams and players do now - 5 shooter lineups and let the stars take over. We literally hamper our star.
