I can understand the logic. But I think what we “know” we have in Donovan is not someone who will ever be the core piece in a championship team.This is where I’m at. I think as Jazz fans, we’re a little too close to the situation to see it clearly enough and we all have a little Donovan fatigue. In reality, he might be worth building around from here on out.
The dude is a 25 year old guard who can drop 35+ in big playoff moments pretty consistently. If we hit the reset button on a complete rebuild, how many draft picks do we spend on trying to find a scorer of Donovan’s ilk?
I look at it like this: We know what we have (and what we don’t) in Donovan. Now we have plenty of assets to try and assemble the remainder of a team around his strengths and weaknesses. It might not sound like the sexiest solution but might be the best one.
You get the chance to flip him for 4-5 first round picks, it’s an easy decision.
