Trade Rumors Involving the Jazz

I’ll get blasted for this but I think Agbaji has a chance to be an allstar, has the talent athleticism and shooting to do so. He’s usually the most athletic player on the court just like Kawhi Leonard. Not comparing their games just athleticism. No one saw Leonard as anything close to an allstar, but here we are. Just a matter of him getting there and the coaching staff believing in him and having patience.

We have to take some swings… so risky doesn’t bother me at all. If you hit on a drafted 3 and D wing you get like a minimum of 7 years of team control… I’d rather take a few swings on those types in the draft than put those picks in for a little over a year of team control. He’s not in the DPOY convo. He’s good… their defense isn’t… their offense isn’t… he is t completely at fault obviously but if they have other competent defenders around him (and they do) then shouldn’t the DPOY prop those guys up? He’s likely on an all defense team but I’d have like 5-6 guys ahead of him.

My issue is also that you can find guys that give you 75-80% of what OG does at a lower price… we aren’t at a spot where they extra 20% is worth paying a premium for…

And lol at the price you quoted… they were offered three protected pick by the Knicks (pretty obvious who that report was) and yet OG is not a Knick… so your package of like the 28th pick and two protected picks also won’t cut the mustard. The minimum it would cost us imo (this is Ujiri we are dealing with) is one unprotected pick that we own, the Brooklyn pick, and Ochai… likely Beasley is the salary match but might sneak in THT. That would be the minimum… I’m sure they push for two unprotected picks. If OG moves I think it will be the Suns Grizz or Warriors putting up two unprotected picks… maybe the Heat.

So if you are advocating for a trade for OG… realize the cost is going to hurt… then ask if you’d rather live with a Josh Hart or someone in that mold instead… while saving the assets for someone else. That’s the path I very much prefer or just wait on Ochai and wait on the draft.

If a guy like Bridges became available I’d likely push in for him but he’s in a different tier than OG for me.
Well the alleged Knicks offer came when Raptors werent sure if they were gonna be sellers yet. And we dont know details of insurances on those picks etc.

Tell me then.. where in the draft you pick for a guy you easily develop into 75%-80% of OG? Also, are you settling for 75%-80% version in the long run? Or are you just 100% sure we cannot re-sign him?

He was drafted 23rd and there were at least 3 other 3&D guys picked before him, none of whom developed into solid starters even. So will we pick the right guy even?

And for him not being in DPOY convo.. maybe right now other guys are hotter topics but he was odds leader at one point early December and is still 5th despite his team being bad.

Here are articles from that early December timeframe and NBA ladder from last week where he also sits (unranked 4-10)

Indiana Pacers center Myles Turner has agreed to a two-year, $60 million contract extension that includes an additional $17.1M renegotiation on his 2022-2023 salary, his agent Austin Brown of CAA Sports told ESPN on Saturday.

The deal will include a $17.1 million renegotiation bump -- largest in NBA history -- on Turner's $18 million salary this season, with an additional $41 million over the next two seasons that ties Turner to the Pacers through the 2024-25 season.

The Pacers are allowed to increase the money on his current deal because of the franchise's available salary cap space.

Turner's extension eliminates one of the top possible centers from the summer free agent marketplace -- and ends the speculation of a trade deadline deal involving him.

Takes a good player off of the market and Indiana doesn’t have much room to take on salaries now. This is good for us.

Myles Turner will always be a Pacer and he will always be on a semi expiring 20M contract for his whole career... he will also always be on the trade block. This is hilarious to me for some reason.

Miami is reportedly interested in Vanderbilt. There are a couple different deals we could do. Dedmon plus their pick this year would work. Maybe add in Olynyk and take back Robinson plus a premium unprotected pick in either 2027, 2028 or 2029.

John Collins not getting moved either would be crazy. Both have been in trade talks for a couple years now.

That would be nice. I think his floor is a rich man's Courtney Lee.

Lee was efficient on offense and took good shots; I see OA shooting more volume than Lee and potentially being a better defender as well.

They would have as much reason to offer it now. it would be on the table. We don't know but we also definitely know.

Draft one, sign one, trade for one... i will take the budget version of OG over the premium one if the price is the same as say Dejounte Murray's trade price.

Chances of drafting a solid 3 and D guy are pretty good. Guys drafted between 10-30 since the 2017 draft

OG
Derrick White
Josh Hart

2018
Mikal Bridges
Kevin Huerter (more 3 than D but provides 75% of OG's on court value at least)
Miles Bridges

2019
Cam Johnson
PJ Washington
Grant Williams

2020
Devin Vassell
Josh Green
Saddiq Bey
Jaden McDaniels

2021
Zhaire Williams (maybe? stay tuned)
Trey Murphy
Quentin Grimes

2022 its too early but these guys are pretty promising
Jalen Williams
Ochai
AJ Griffin
Tari Eason
Braun

Not all 3 and D types but this also ignores guys that are way more dynamic we'd rather have on the wing. There are a handful of these player types that pop almost every year. We have enough picks to take a few shots and to move up and get the ones we want.

Thats fine... I remember too. I just think December is the month you end up hearing **** like "does Demar Derozan have an MVP case? I just think if you are a really impactful defender at the level of best in the league that maybe your team shouldn't be at the defensive level of like the Kings and Blazers... unless you are surrounded by terrible defenders - FVV, Trent jr., Pascal are generally considered to be plus defenders.

Its not that I think he is a **** player... I think he's very good. He's going to be valued on the trade market like he's an all-star... he is not that.

Nice you mention Kawhi (still one of my favorite players). Yes it did take a few years for him before he showed his full colors. Let’s hope Agbaji develops his defensive skills in his first few years just as Kawhi developed his offensive skills in his first few years.

I’d like to get Jovic out of that deal if they make it.

Beasley and Olynyk for Martin, Jovic, and draft assets for taking on Duncan Robinson’s contract.

Beasley has positive value, Olynyk and Martin are a wash for me, Jovic and a pick is what I would expect to take on that salary for the next few years.

Sounds good to me.

Turner signed an extension.
One thing on this extension... It actually does not prevent him from being traded. Leroux had an article about it. I actually think this might still mean the Lakers land him... I think it somewhat increases his trade value in certain situations. Turner and Hield for Westbrook and Bev still works.
