Real Expectations

We're two blow outs into the season and we're finally seeing what we've been waiting for 7 months; our new Utah Jazz. Everyone's been screaming for the youth movement. Posting how they don't care how many games we win, just as long as our young talent is developed, they play hard, and compete. Well, we are witnessing the beginning of that process now and many of us are losing our ****. "Fire Ty!", "This team has no identity!", "Losing culture!!!11!111!!". Step away from the cliff and trying to see this beyond 3 feet from your face.

We're in for a long season, perhaps seasonS. Judging by the best case scenario (OKC) we're in for a lot of losing. I know many of us are not used to this, we've been spoiled for a long time. KOC tries to call it a reload, but let's not kid ourselves. We're rebuilding, and rebuilding is painful. It's time to pay the piper, take our medicine, and hunker down for winter cause this is going to suck.

I challenge some of the better posters here to focus on the process and progression this season. Really, it's all we'll have to keep us sane. Just look at the first two games. Yes, we got blown out in both. But, there was improvement from game 1 to game 2. Shooting improved, we stayed in the game longer, and we saw semblance's of Jazz basketball out there. Both games were on the road, one of the back end of a b2b, against really good teams. What the hell did everyone think this was going to be like? I know you wanted the team to blow your mind and come out of the gates proving the world wrong. Well guess what? You're in for a world of disappointment. I know we're not used to it, but you better get used to it and fast. Otherwise you won't be watching very many basketball games this year.

I am writing this for my own sanity. Every year I forget how difficult it is to read this forum and try to contribute without losing my ****. I guess this is a call to arms. Please, for the love of John Stocktons huge balls, let's see some constructive analysis of this team this year. I would do it, but I suck and my BB IQ is about as big as Trouts weener. We've almost never been presented with an opportunity like this one; to watch a young team grow before our eyes. Let's not waste it.

I think this has to do more with the FO and coaching staff than anything. I agree that "we" need to stop freaking out. However Burks gets limited time. Favors is still being limited in time as well. This crap of Raja getting anything more than garbage time has to stop.

This is why I ponied up money (that I don't really have) to get cable and a nice tv. I love the post and totally agree, however, the vets can still crunch the **** (not a new position).

I am one of the best posters in here. I accept your challenge! I will create the best threads ever. This will be my finest hour. Someone has to step up. And that person is me. I won't let you down babydicks. I will be focused and ready to go.

Also please stop playing Howard in the blowouts. Put only the young guys out there. Also if Tinsley is not guaranteed release him before it is guaranteed and take a flyer on a youngin. Who knows what we might get.

My "real expectation" for this team is to win 18 games this season, and rank in the bottom 5 in the league in FG%, 3pt%, and scoring margin. I haven't slurped down any of the kool-aid yet...it will be a LONG season for Jazz fans, no question.

thats "dix", brah.

I don't mind the losing, but clearly we can play better than this. There is no way to go but up and as the season progresses, we WILL get better. Alec Burks was great last night, scoring 15 points in only 10 minutes. I hope Ty realizes what we have in him and starts giving him minutes. If Burks has a couple more performances like this, I think we should start him. A backcourt of him and Hayward would really open things up for the bigs.

On a side note, I like what I've seen from Kanter. He reminds me a lot of Hayward last year with how nervous he looks out there, but once he gets over that, and gets more comfortable, he will start making those easy shots around the basket. He is already a beast on the boards.

Some negatives: I'm not liking how Al and Harris fit with this team. As well as Al played last night in that first quarter, he got dominated by Nene. I would love to see a frontcourt of Millsap and Favors, with Enes as the first big off the bench.

For the sake of optimism, I see some amazing trends already. Raja Bell's minutes are going down, while Alec Burks are steadily increasing. Burks is using the extra minutes to increase his production every game so far.

Derrick Favors played fewer minutes against Denver, coach must be planning ahead by resting his young body. But Favors respnded by getting more rebounds in fewer minutes--now that is motivation.

Kanter is fun to watch, the way he rebounds will make it hard for coach to keep him off the court.

Ty Corbin's honesty and frankness is refreshing. Last night after the Denver loss he told reporters, "Its gonna be a long season".

I like that he has not named a captain. Lets watch to see who gets tired of losing, and steps up and yells at his teamates to get it together. One of these young guys could be the leader the team needs. Come'on Hayward, Favors, Kanter, or Burks Rise Up.

FWIW, DJ on the radio this morning was talking about Okur starting in the preseason games. He said it didn't make sense at the time, but in retrospect it was clear the Jazz were showcasing him for a trade. DJ went on to say if the line-ups or playing time don't make sense right now just hang-on because we don't know what plans the jazz have.

Good stuff.... I laughed pretty hard when you called him babydicks!:D

My expectations were to start developing our young guys. Again I am disappointed in the play vets strategy especially when the vets make as many mistakes as the rookies. In order for the young guys to learn in this league they have to play and be allowed to make mistakes. Guys like CJ are still doing the same dumb@$$ things they were doing as rookies. I think giving a player 5+ years in the league is plenty of time to evaluate them. So I expect the coaches to be smarter than I am. It is obvious to me that Bell is done, CJ is just average at best, and that Harris is not the type of PG to run the Jazz. I think the Jazz will eventually get it together to be an average team but there is little doubt they will be a true contender ever if they continue to play inferior vets over more talented rookies.

If the vets keep getting major minutes then I think the Jazz will win about 28 games. Playing the rookies may not result in more wins this season but in the future it will pay off

One huge fact to keep in mind right now. Teams are getting blown out left and right so far. Just look at the scores from the last 4 days. ****, look at Dallas. We're bad, but we're not the only team getting housed right now.

I am one that has been vocal (or at least I feel like I have been). This is my problem, during the lockout I was always saying to play the young guys a ton of minutes. I was always told that doing that would create a "losing" culture. How is losing two games in a row by nearly 20 points each time creating a "winning" culture. Bench the vets. GM's know what they are going to get from the vets so benching them for the purpose of getting experience to the young guys.

I know that this is ranting a little bit but I am certainly ok with losing if Favors and Hayward are playing 30+ minutes and Kanter and Burks are getting 20+ minutes. Anything else is unacceptable.

Yeah but we are getting the worst of it. Dead last in point differential per game (-21).

I'm with everyone on wanting to see minutes managed more effectively. I know at lot has to do with the blowout losses/garbage time, fouls, etc but we have nobody getting 30+ minutes a game.
Minute distribution:
Al Jefferson: 55 min/27.5 a game
Gordon Hayward: 51 min/25.5 a game
Paul Millsap: 49 min/24.5 a game
Devin Harris: 47 min/23.5 a game
Raja Bell: 44 min/22 a game
Josh Howard: 42 min/21 a game
CJ Miles: 39 min/19.5 a game
Earl Watson: 37 min/18.5 a game
Derrick Favors: 35 min/17.5 a game
Enes Kanter: 35 min/17.5 a game
Jeremy Evans: 18 min/9 a game
Alec Burks: 15 min/7.5 a game
Jamaal Tinsley: 12 min/6 a game

Biggest problem is Bell and Burks. Burks has twice the points Bell does in 1/3 of the minutes!

I'm not sure how anyone's minutes can be steadily increasing after 2 games. He played more in game two than game one, but I'm not sure that really an indication that Corbin is going to continue that trend. If we're in a close game I doubt Burks gets more than 10 minutes.

As long as the injuries are kept to a minimum I think Real should have a good season.
I expect them to be in contention for the Supporter's shield, as well as the MLS Cup.

I don't think many people expected the Jazz to compete for a championship this year.

However, I believe most people expected to be able to stay competitive.

Being blown out and looking like crap both offensively and defensively in 3 out of 4 games is completely unacceptable. This needs to change if we hope to take any positive this year.

Jazz fans are loyal and understanding despite what some people say. Most are rational. Expectations are right on. Expecting a win against a depleted Lakers team that had played in the previous 2 nights wasn't exactly going out on a limb.

Jazz fans will understand if we lose EVERY SINGLE GAME this year as long as we remain competitive and see improvement. What we won't stand for is a coach who looks like he doesn't know what the hell he's doing, post players who don't post up, pass, or have any toughness, guard play that is utterly pathetic, and collective efforts that make Greg Ostertag look like Karl Malone.
