Woj: Jazz agree to 3-team trade with Lakers and Timberwolves

I have trouble calling Ochai (presumably) "core". And I like him probably more than the average here.

IF the Jazz are out of the playoffs next year as well, Lauri has then been on Bulls teams with 27, 22, 22 and 31 wins, played one play-in with the Cavs and has been on two tanking Jazz teams. Then the probability is high, he's not with whatever the future contender is or is not. And there's a very large hole in the plans.
I'm not concerned by that. I expect to be terrible the rest of this season. Next season I think we are in the bottom 3rd of the west but have a nice young core to grow together. The 24 offseason we add another top 10 pick and we are pretty aggressive and add couple solid role player free agents.

I haven't been making any claims.

Other than that the chances of Lauri being with the Jazz in 24/25 or re-signing dropped considerably. And playing rookies next year further drops those. Adjust your rebuild scenarios accordingly.

Lauri isn't going anywhere after the 24/25 season as long as the jazz have surrounded him with a ton of solid young players and the team is on a clear upswing. That is what the next 18 months is about.

And that's fine by me. I think you're one of the most honest ones. But then there's the fantasy land where Lauri is definitely re-signing, all the picks hit and every single positive thing happens without any of the negatives.

The "clear" in that sentence is doing a lot of heavy, heavy lifting :)

Plenty of time and assets to do some serious heavy lifting. In the meantime I want to see Lauri develop more of a selfish mentality that is needed to take his game to the next level. I don't want to see anymore passive ******** from Lauri. I want him demanding the ball and making things happen.

Cavs sucked bigtime when LeBron left in 2018 They dropped from a .610 to a .232 win percentage the following year. Then .292 and .306 the next two years. cavs got lottery picks in Sexton at #8 and next Garland at #5 (atlanta picked luka at #3 that year too). then Mobley #3 in 2021 draft. cavs was back in the business 3 years post lebron. Jazz could be less. I'm looking at a year or two if we play our cards right.

Again, I get the trade (even though I detest that Top 4 protection on the pick...so dumb), and thanks Ainge I guess for giving me a team to watch that was a little bit entertaining for the first half of the season anyway.

But now it's time to just wake up to the inevitable fact that there will be no joy in watching Jazz basketball until late October at least. At least if the last three games are any indication on how this team stands up to adversity.

We let go 4 NBA players and several second rounders to "likely" receive one FRP or receive a SRP from a franchise that educated guesses have probably tanking by 2026-27.
I might be playing a bit of semantics here but it does not sound good.
I don't like DA and I think he probably exhausted the league at this point, but he probably plays semantics way better than me I guess or I hope or.... whatever....

The Jazz will play better than they have recently. Guys will get use to new roles and new lineups and play for each other again.

I hope you're right. Like I'll continue to watch every game, because that's what I've done for 20 years or so, but lately it's felt more like a depressing chore. Perhaps you will be right and it won't be a few weeks from now.

The team had bad vibes around the deadline.

It will definitely be weird, but I think it gets better. It might not be much better, but I doubt it will be as bad as yesterday.

Or they will get into bad habits. JC makes sure he's putting up 22 shots a night to get a better FA deal. Sexton and THT keep blindly driving into the paint with 15 seconds on the shot clock and 20 on the game clock. Lauri checks out and waits in the corners for passes that never come. Two ways this can go. Based on the players, even quite surprisingly strong, reactions last night to the trades, I'm not that confident.

It's only been the last three games but it does seem like the attitude of the team has went from having their backs to the wall and having a chip on their shoulder to not caring. Who's to blame them when the FO seemed to give up on them as well? They have played their hearts out just to have it all thrown out the window.

I think Hardy is good enough to steer the team away form taht, but maybe. Obviously they are going to lose so it's going to be hard to have the self-belief they had early in the season.

This is my hope. Some competitive losses just to keep things interesting, and growth for the young guys

he will get the ball even less without Mike, and now that they are tanking full speed. If Clarkson isn't dumped today, he will do just like last night to help the tank further as a completely innefficient chucker with no defense that only hurts the team which also makes others values go down for summer trades and accomplished nothing for Hardy to work with.
They did not just fire up the tank here, they sacrificed what they already were developing and hit the restart again.
It was a wasted season at this point. Unless you thing JTA is the next hidden gem or some other crap

Lakers beat writer Dave McMenamin just now on ESPN said that a source close to the Lakers told him that by getting rid of Westbrook they removed a vampire from the locker room because he was sucking all of the blood out of the locker room.

Maybe he's not the great teammate and locker room guy some were trying to tell me he is yesterday. So glad the Jazz are going to buy him out.
