What's new

2023 NBA Draft Megathread

If that's the case I hope they can jump up a spot or two and grab one. (Based on mocks will assume Ausur could potentially fall within Ainge's grasp).

Obviously can't speak in any type of certainty until we see how the lotto balls and combine play out.
If Charlotte, Houston, or Detroit fall into the 4th spot then I can see Amen dropping to 5th or 6th. SA taking #2 would also kinda hurt cuz I think they would be a backstop.

I'm guessing if Orlando doesn't jump up they would take a shot at Ausar... no idea what Washington's new regime will be like... I think Pacers will lock into Hendricks or Walker depending on where they land.

Long and short... I think Ausar very well could be there at #9.

Thinking if either Thompson is there at #9 Jazz should take him
They are both 6' 7" and spectacular athletes that can guard just about anyone and do a lot
Maybe they can't shoot but you have to take your chances and hope they can figure that out

I still think mystery is better for draft prospects that start out high on draft boards. Most guys seem to stay in the same spot and/or rise, and I think more guys fall than improve their position.
Probably... I think they were like mid lotto for Amen and late lotto for Ausar pre-season... and then some of the college guys sucked or were hurt. Seems to be a guy every year that falls off a cliff too.

I like them and would draft Ausar at #9 for sure... I would go a different route at #4 than Ausar though.

If I'm a GM I would be concerned about not picking Amen and him turning in to a superstar. I think he has the highest superstar potential other than Wemby. I would definitely want to get a good look at him in person in the same gym as better competition.

It would be a scary pick either way.

He’s the classic guy who gets a GM fired… either when he busts and his GM gets fired… or the GM that passed on him gets fired when he becomes awesome.

Ausar at #9 is kinda the perfect cross section of risk and upside.

Is Amen getting anyone fired? He has been top 4 consensus all year. Not like taking him at 4 is going out on a limb. Maybe if you took him at 2 over Scoot/Miller.

IDK... if you are Detroit and take him and it doesn't work with Ivey, Cade, then does the GM survive... if Cam Whitmore pops... Same exercise with Portland, Charlotte, Orlando, Houston... a GM in good standing like with us or SA then no player is getting the GM fired.

It also depends on how big of a bust he is and how quickly it happens... reverse is true as well.

I just generally think the "getting fired" thing is when you break from consensus. No one really faults DL for drafting Exum because it's what was considered the consensus move. If you take Amen at 4, I think everyone understands that. If the Detroit GM is getting fired, he's getting fired for trading for Marvin Bagley and James Wiseman while having a billion center projects at once.

Now if you pass on Amen at 4 and he becomes a star, then you might get fired for that one move.

If his agent is smart he would never allow Amen to have joint workouts.

1 singular move generally does not get a guy fired. Its an expression. Lets just say a decision this big carries some job security weight for some guys... and the mystery, intrigue, and potential downside will play heavily into the thoughts of those decision makers.

Dante went #5 when he was consensus top 4. Aaron Gordon was a better pick... and DL did take some heat for Exum but had the injuries as a valid excuse. He would take more heat if he just sucked and was never injured.
