2023 NBA Draft Megathread

I think better defender is debatable and Black is definitely the superior passer.

I'm not sure how you are getting that based on their college tape. They were both pretty basic at passing with a few great passes mixed in there. Cason averaged more assists on less turnovers while having the ball in his hands less of the time.

FWIW, I do see how you would project Black to be the better passer in the NBA. This is the main reason I think he has slightly more upside and specifically where I think head height has it's main advantage, by being able to see more of the floor. I think Black is super smart and will figure things out and if his shooting can get to be respectable, he's going to be great in the NBA.

I just don't understand why people can use their imagination with other prospects, but think that Cason, who was basically good at everything, is a finished product and won't also improve in the areas he needs to in order to be great.

Don’t you think Cason’s lack of size and/or elite athleticism could limit his ceiling and projection?

It’s the Desmond Bane Fallacy. Player X is good at stuff but boring… player X is safe but has low upside.

Well we kinda lucked out that WAS needed a PG, are picking before us, are just out of reach of Amen,.. and Black’s shooting is coming around.

It could turn out to be the perfect Storm that we need.
I mean if Black's shooting actually "came around" I'd be pretty bummed that we didn't get him. He's easily top 6 if you could guarantee his shooting.

Never buy open gym shooting… Derek Lively is banging threes in workouts too. All these guys can shoot in an open gym.

I think Blacks spot up three will end up around 35%ish on a low volume… similar to Ricky Rubio type shooter. I doubt the pull-up ever works well with his klunky mechanics and load/release point. That may be enough because he’s going to be able to finish and draw fouls better than Ricky who sucked at the rim.

You can survive a limited shooter like Black and a non shooter like Walker… you can’t have any other shooting deficiencies on the court with them. That’s my big worry on Black.

Damn, he was my deep sleeper this year. Think he will be a great pro someday. Hope he really kills it at Weber and gets in the best shape of his life.
