2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Locke said on his lates podcast that Walker will not be able to shoot NBA 3s because he shoots it on the way down.

This kinda limits his ceiling right?

That’s really alarming imo.
I hate it when guys shoot on the way down. Such a weird thing to do on a jumpshot.

I found that too conclusive to Walker’s prospects, but I did find it interesting.

And I know I’m the co-VP of Intercontinental Marketing for the Tay Henny fan club (our name/pronouns are Hennies) but I still very much like Jarace Walker. Just think he had a path to being a two way star but that path gets real murky if the shooting isn’t great. If the shooting is bad he hopefully becomes something on the Okongwu/Bam spectrum. If we didn’t already have Walker Kessler I’d be more excited about him.

That is a bunch of nonsense. I don't anticipate any issue shooting the 3 ball after a little bit of time working on extending his range. It is a process though and may take him a little while to really get comfortable and confident from the nba 3.

A few observations at this stage:

1. Trade the F up and get the guy we want. I am all in. And Cam seems like the best option.

2. If we stay at 9, there are a bunch of guys I could be talked in to - Bilal, Hendricks, Black, Dick, Ausar. So staying at 9 without giving up an asset is comfortable. I dont think I move up 2 spots and give up an asset to do it unless I get Cam. We arent on the outside looking in and desperate to move 2 spots.

3. 16 feels the same. Hawkins, JHS, Cason, Dick or others that slip all feel like good options so I don't NEED to move up.

4. 28 feels like there will be some great pickups that fall. Miller, GG Jackson (although there are red flags on both), Murray, Lewis, Podz all pop out. Again, I dont see any reason to give up an asset to move this pick to slide up a couple of spots unless it is for Cam.

Dumb pet peeve of mine… why have him shooting long twos? I see this quite a bit… sometimes in videos sometimes at the gyms I go to. Have them drill and practice the shot that is 2 feet further and worth 50% more.

Shot looks more fluid though. Looks good.
Maybe cos that could expose his lack of NBA 3 point range?

Whitmore falls to 9, then two projects with Whitehead and Jackson

It’s so wild to me that Whitmore is getting mocked by anyone this late. I think there’s a cogent argument that Portland should take him at 3 and he should under no circumstance fall past 5. His indicators are nuts and he has a much stronger fit than a PG in the top-5.

Slow the video down to half speed, pause at when he releases the ball. It looks to be at the top of jump to me. Same with the other 3s from this game.

He could smooth out his release a bit and that could help him extend his range, but his base form is solid.

From experience you get more power by releasing the ball on the way up, not right at the top of the jump.
