2023 NBA Draft Megathread

Been busy for a couple hours and come back to 50+ new posts… was super excited to read some nice content. Instead I read Ferg posting non-sense about Bilal for 10+ posts in a row.

We are not taking him at 9. Please stop it with that craziness.

I see you've reached the "denial" stage of grief... there is still time before the draft to go through all other stages and come to acceptance. :p

Lol, I’ve already come to terms with us drafting NSJ at 9. Bilal at 9 wouldn’t be much better.

Did you see that mock draft from USA Today that showed Anthony Black dropping to 10 and Taylor Hendricks dropping to 12? I'm guessing not... That one had the Jazz taking Bilal at 10 too.

If the Jazz want a guard like Black/Bufkin AND they want Coulibaly, they need to do a deal with Dallas for #10.

The Jazz are the most attractive option there because the tiers drop off at around 17 and no other team has multiple picks with guys in that tier level.

Speaking of tiers...

Bilal is not considered by most to be in the TIER available to the Jazz at 9. For that reason alone, I wouldn't draft him at 9.

Tiers

1: Wemby
2: Scoot/Miller
3: Whitmore, Walker, Thompson Twins, Hendricks, and Black
4: Bufkin (sorry Bufkin fans), Bilal, Miller, Cason, Schofino, Dick, Lively, Hawkins, George, NSJ, and probably arguably a couple others

I think the rule of thumb is you never draft for upside or fit OUTSIDE of the available tier. I am sure that my tier's don't match everyone's but they are consistent with most mock drafts (although Bufkin, Dick, and Bilal have all squeaked in to the top 9 picks in some mocks). We get the last of the top tier at 9 and then move UP in the next tier for Bilal, then sure. Otherwise, sell the 9 and get multiple guys in the 4th tier. If we trade the 16th and 28th for the 10th then I would pickup whoever falls in tier 3 with the 9th and my favorite player for the 4th tier. I would put Miller ahead of Bufkin and Bilal but could see us grab any number of players from that tier.

Yes, I was dying for a new USA Today mock to come out. I heard that Bryan Kalbrosky has a lot of intel. In fact he references reports from Rafael Barlowe in his picks… wait a minute… wasn’t it Barlowe who reported that Black and Hendricks would both be there at 10 and Bilal was going 9?

Also a reasonable scenario is the Jazz have Bilal 9th on their big board and they project their top 8 all go before them. They leak they love Bilal so OKC/Orlando move ahead of them to get Bilal, pushing a guy they prefer down to them.

Sounds very reasonable, let’s leak someone who has no shot of going top-8 as the guy we like to push someone better down to us. Genius.

If we do keep the 28th pick, what do yall think about Jaime Jaquez and Murray? I love Kris Murray and if we could get anything like that in his bro, that would be amazeballs.

Also, everything I hear on podcasts about Jaquez is super positive and praiseworthy.
