What's new

Grade the Utah Jazz draft.

I absolutely LOVE Hendricks on the jazz. I can already seem him moving the needle for the jazz as a rookie with his shooting and defense. Give him 3 years of developing his game and his body and he might be special. Im sure he will bulk up a bit and add some ball handling and passing and by the end I think he will be an all star level player with his size, athleticism, and skillset. Seems like a very humble kid with a good attitude. I bet Hardy will love him and get the most out of him. Also happy that Sexton wasn't traded. I really like the make up attitude/personality/culture wise of this team. Hoping that george can fit in with his extreme cockiness that I have heard about. He is the only one I could see being a diva.

Disregarding trading up etc as factoring into picks. Where we got the players we did

Hendricks A
George A
Sensabaugh B+

Best draft we have had in years excluding last year were we took other teams drafted players which turned out crazy good. Will Hardy going to do some great things with getting George playing within the system. He’s gonna play defense. I think up and down the team matches up with the nuggets better than any other in the west right now. That’s what matters bc nuggets are built to win for 5 years

I don’t follow much college ball so don’t really have much opinion on any of them. That said, when the players and their families were being introduced last night and they showed Hendricks I said to myself, “yup, that’s the guy I want”.

2023 NBA Draft grades: How each team fared in the first round

I agree with the New York Post, solid A. (Tied with San Antonio and Lakers - only Houston fared better.)
Jazz brass are just ecstatic with the way things played out. (Going off the Tony Jones disclosure I’d say we dodged a bullet by taking Hendricks instead of George at #9 cause no way Hendricks falls to #16.) And having Sensabaugh fall to #28 (ten picks after Bilas touted him- kiss of death) was just icing on the cake.

I thought you were giving the NYP quote with the Jazz being ecstatic with how things went, but no. This is what they said:
Danny Ainge and Co. were a big winner of the draft, landing three prospects who all have rotational potential right away.

Hendricks is one of the best two-way big men in the draft, a rim-protecting, 3-point shooter. George is a skilled guard who was considered by many to be a lottery talent.

And Sensabaugh shot 48 percent in the Big Ten as a freshman, an impressive accomplishment for any 19-year-old.

Which seems reasonable. But if you have the ninth pick, and your 8 favorite prospects are all gone by your pick, I don't think that makes you ecstatic. They were probably pretty bummed they didn't catch a break with someone falling.

I'd say A-.

Seems I was a bit higher on Hendricks than Jazz brass (had him 7th), so pretty happy with that. Not as high on George, but I get the pick and role, talent is there to work with. And I'm a big Sensabaugh fan, would've been quite happy with him at #16.

Had them ranked:
7- Hendricks
8- Sensabaugh
17-George

So that's a good draft imo. Not factoring in Bilal Coulibaly above, as I hadn't seen near any of him.

Hear you loud and clear. I actually wouldn’t be at all surprised to see Hendricks end up being the ROY this season as Wemby could pull a Chet Holmgren or else Pop imposes some limits on his freewheeling ways and who else on what team is a in a position to be spotlighted? Scoot is going to have to defer to Lillard - I can also see some friction developing there with him and Simons unlike our situation.
