Jazz trade for John Collins

11 pages already? lol

My initial reaction is similar to my initial THT reaction. I think we probably should have gotten more for taking on long term salary, but overall I think the Jazz are in a better spot than they were before the trade. I've always liked Collins and you have to feel confident that his value will improve, that's the benefit of trading for a guy on rock bottom value. A Collins-Lauri-Hendricks froncourt is a dream scenario for Collins. Obviously he'll play with Kessler too, but you cannot draw up a better situation for him to succeed.

I guess the big question is, can he shoot? Was it a bad year, or was it because he has 9 fingers now. Will he ever have 10 fingers again? I don't know the answers to these things so I won't speculate.
I have a similar feel... one thing I'd caution though... his value being rock bottom. If he plays the same as he did last year his value goes down... the case is he was used wrong the finger... yada yada... that stuff is gone if he doesn't play better (he'd have one year less on his deal so maybe not a ton less value). Just think this is his current rock bottom... doesn't mean he couldn't drop further.

For me the biggest question is - can we really not do any better than this in FA? Is this the best player we can get for 25M a year over the next 3 years?

I thought I trolled this forum. Either people on this forum are delusional/just want the Jazz to legitimately lose every game, or the organization can't do the couch warriors what they want.

This off-season has already been a homerun for the Jazz. We don't have to watch Gay 15-20 minutes a game, we got a 25 year old for him. We've added a lot of young, athletic talent, that can shoot, and it's not even July 1st. Ya'll need to stop trolling so hard

Only two teams hit 50 wins in the western conference last year. I think 47-48 is like the upper end of where we could end up... unless there is another big deal. 50 wins will be like top 3 in the conference going forward imo... I think we are a 5-6 seed on the high end and a lower play in team on the low end... good health assumed.

That's all I'm saying I guess... 50 wins gonna be different going forward.

I know what I said and stand by it but you’re being too literal. The general point is we are going to be a playoff caliber team or thereabouts which will give us hope but clearly have a ceiling that is not remotely that of a contender. It’s settling. Imo.

Maybe Collins will prove me wrong. Maybe he’s never had a real coach until Quin and Hardy will get a lot out of him. Idk. But this contract, while not awful, definitely restricts us going forward.

Yep. Once you lose the mystery and can no longer say a bad year was just an aberration, you can't see rock bottom.

As a player that is fair. My question is what about short term deals though... is this the best asset we can get for that?

Collins is an upgrade to Gay at the cost of nothing really since they have to meet the salary floor if JC walks. But anyone who thinks the recent version of Collins has anything to do with location is going to be dissappointed. There is a reason the Hawks dumped him for nothing.
Many of the fools on here that are happy about this thought wee would have to trade someone good to get him smh

Cool, the Cavs gave us Lauri when everyone thought he'd be out of the league after joining us too,
