Is Cody too similar to Hendricks?

I voted Cody Williams because I believe the kid has a higher ceiling than anybody the Jazz have drafted in quite awhile IMO.

Honestly, if the dude had 15 more lbs on him, the Jazz wouldn’t have gotten a whiff of him at #10 and that’s the point. There’s a foundation already in place with this kid and it’s now the Jazz’s job to help him reach that ceiling.

Yep if his shot creation is a bit better I think he’s easily top 3.

We just have to train him up now and hope he has the fire to keep improving that aspect of his game.

Hendricks and Cody are two COMPLETELY different player types. No one is ahead of anyone, as they wont compete for the same role in the final roster if they reach their ceilings.

One is an off ball role player whose main calling card should be his defense, while the other one is a secondary ballhandler / on ball creator.

Pretty sure Ainge didn’t waste a #9 pick in a stacked draft last year on an “off ball role player”.

Pretty sure he wants him to develop into much more than that.

Why you hate off ball role players? Every championship team has 2-3 starters who play mostly off ball, and are still super valuable to their teams. Having those guys means your best players get to keep the rock more.

If you knew you had next Aaron Gordon at #9, would you pass just because he is an off ball role player?

I mean if you pick a projected role player top 3 (or some years even top 5), then you should probably be scutinized. But picking up super high ceiling off ball player at #9 is not "wasting a pick".

Cody is very good off the dribble. That's one of his strengths as a player. I think you are more referring to his lack of physical strength. That's why he's having issues gaining separation. But his actual handles? He absolutely has that and wiggle in his game. It's one of the things that make him a good prospect

Wow Tony Jones is replying to my post!

I guess I was a little frustrated watching Hendricks being so 2-dimensional last season. Hence my concern.

I really respect your opinion so that is alleviating my concern somewhat to hear that Cody should be able to build on that going forward.

Can’t wait to him develop into a complete wing player in the near future.

Yup. If Williams has the fire in his belly and there’s an alpha-type personality somewhere in there, the kid has the type of potential that 5 years down the road, people will be asking “How did 9 teams miss on Cody Williams in such a bad draft?”.

Obviously we have no idea if he’ll ever realize all that potential, but this draft had 2, maybe 3 guys with franchise cornerstone potential and the Jazz got one of them by standing pat at 10.

ELITE? Yeah, no ****. He would’ve been universally known as the #1 pick.

He just needed to show that he could successfully do anything on the ball for people to salivate. That was not anything anyone was talking about with Hendricks. Williams is a big perimeter player, Hendricks’ attributes were mostly that of a stretch big.
