My hot take for season is that we will need this thread.

Focus is on the rookies and sophomores, but for reasons I cant explain... I feel like Johnny will win more minutes than we all think, and look good out there.

Yes. His first game of last season where he played more than 5 minutes was March 4th against the Wizards. From there to the end of season he posted the best net rating of anyone who played 15+ mpg. Jason Preston was the only one who beat Juzang in net rating, but he played just 70 minutes vs Juzang's 363.

He scored 8.5 PPG in 21.4 MPG with 48.1 FG% and 43.8 3P% in those 17 games, in addition to playing solid enough defense to win the plus minus race.

And he has the size to be a good PoA defender, and now that Kris Dunn isnt with us anyone who is projected to be better defending the 1 than Juzang?
 
I am glad I was wrong about Juzang. I hope he gets some good playing time. It will be difficult for him considering all the young talent that the jazz will have coming in over the next few years.

Nah one decent to good perimeter defender doesnt change the floor of a lineup much. He would likely play with Flip + one of our ball dominant guards who are all bad defenders.

I mean I cant imagine how we would get Flip on the court and have that lineup be somewhat successful if the 1-2 guards Flip had to play with were from the pool of Sexton, Keyonte and Clarkson. Those guys take touches away from Flip and defensively it would be a disaster.
 
on a team with three rookies, three sophomores and a young center on the brink, you don't sign random dleague guy to a contract unless you think he is the second coming of joe ingles.

I think this may be partly why neither Bazely nor Lofton were retained. But I look at Juzang's signing more as a reward for hard work/development within the Jazz's organization than any particularly high expectations for him.
 
it's a nice thought, but professionally, you don't pass on a million bucks or so as a friendly 'good job' present, and roster spots are also very valuable. i'm hoping for more. then again, i do realize that he might be there as a practice player for the draftee's, which is ok too, as long as he does a good job of it.
