Maybe Greg thinks the only way he can be like his dad is to fight with Karl in the press?

I love Karl Malone and always will, but he shouldn't have been so quick to criticize and throw the franchise he still claims to love under the bus. That said, Greg comes off as the insecure, inexperienced, and extremely immature owner we all fear him to be. If everything Karl said was supposedly a lie, Greg sure appeared extremely over-defensive by writing a 1400-work rebuttal. Only thing missing between him and Dan Gilbert's whiny rant was the cosmic sans font.
 
The whole thing is sad. Whether or not the original story is true did it really need to be brought up again and again? And Greg's response came off as childish and petty. I hope this just fades away.
 
Newsflash: a former NBA star has problems after retirement!

Unprecedented..... oh, well there's Jordan's gambling problems, and divorce, and Shaq's divorce, and Kobe's divorce (basically a former star the way he's playing, oh, and his Colorado 'incident')

The point is that a lot of these stars are just a little crazy, that's why they are stars. I was watching something on TV and saw Malone tear up someone's papers before a game, someone on a desk courtside who obviously needed them. What normal person does that? If I did that at my office, I would be brought in for disciplinary measures. Stars are a pain, Malone was especially this way, and as Greg said, there are no advantages for them to put up with it right now, so he really doesn't have to.

Some might say that the advantages are for them to keep Malone's legacy alive, but that has to be a two way street. If Malone wants to keep his legacy alive and well, he needs to shut up and let the past speak for him.

I like the post Greg made. He did reference the 18 years of dominant play, he explained why they don't want to use him as anything more than a figurehead, and he made the obvious point that if Malone wants tickets he just needs to call. He ended by stating that they don't want to break off their association, they just want the respect that Malone should have to a team that kept him around for 18 years, even as his abilities started to wane.

You mean all the way down to just 20 points a game at age 39?
 
Greg is probably right, but it is foolish to come out and write this stuff. He should have taken the high road and just told Karl and everyone that the tickets are there and waiting whenever he wants them and that this whole ticket situation was a big misunderstanding. I recall people on here quoting Karl as not feeling comfortable asking the FO for tickets. Is that right? If so, what's the issue here?
 
The fact is Karl is still as high-maintenance as he ever was, but now he has nothing to offer to offset the grief and aggravation that comes with him.

This is pretty much it in a nutshell right here. For years, The Jazz put up with Karl's crap because he brought 25 points and 15 rebounds a night. What does he have to offer them now - his history as a great player? Big ****ing deal. How many great players make great teachers? Ted Williams? Bill Russell? Jordan? Remember how Kareem was going to transform Michael Olowakandi into an All Star? How'd that work out?

It's like when you're married and you run into some girl you dated years ago who was a great lay but a total bitch. It might be nice to say hello, maybe even have a cup of coffee; but ultimately why would you want her back into your life if you can't get the good with the bad any more?

Where is the line?
When somebody is talking trash about you that you know is not true, at what point do you stop "taking the high road" and actually clear things up?
If somebody was ripping you through the newspaper, radio, or tv... at what point would you call them on what you thought were lies or inaccurate statements?
Is it better to get the truth out there, or just let people drag your name through the mud?

What would you do?
Most of the posters here can't even take crap on here about their handle, let alone about them in real life.
Would those of you saying to take the high road, ever even "take the high road" on here if someone was talking crap about your fake name?

Bottom line, who cares if Greg decided it was time to defend himself, or the Jazz.
 
Sounds like Greggy and Karl simply don't like each other. Whooptey-freaking-do.
 
This is terrible exposure for both Karl and Greg. IMO Karl has always been pretty abrupt in his statements, and has a history of being difficult for the organization. Regardless, he will always be remembered and honored for what he did on the court. I have always been a huge opponent of Karl being a coach, because I think his communication skills would remove any benefit he might give in other areas.

Greg for his part, I expect him to keep things behind closed doors. I'm sure he didn't air out the dirtiest laundry, but his response feels knee-jerk and lacks maturity. I would have much rather him agree to be interviewed or news conference, etc. and show his face. State that he understands why Karl would feel the way he does (everyone knows Jerry was a fighter to the nth degree), and explain that Karl was not privy to the situation, had not talked to Jerry etc.

I wish this hadn't got so far publicly but I have to side with Miller on this. I have always been a big supporter of Karl Malone especially considering how much unfair criticism he took for the Jazz losing. It was always Karl's fault when the Jazz lost. However, I never had any doubt that Karl was HIGH maintenance. Why is anyone surprised by this admission. I think Greg was just tired of all the drama and probably felt like Karl was staining the reputation of the Jazz. Both guys could have handled it better but it seems like Karl has done a lot of immature things off the court. For those defending Karl and saying that Greg doesn't have a right to be pissed, you must not have ever experienced this type of behavior.

Seriously, all Karl had to do was call Greg and as for tickets. How can Karl give an opinion about something if he wasn't there no has he talked to Sloan?

As a Jazz fan this is all embarrassing and a waste of time, so hopefully this situation will die down and people can grow up and act like adults and talk out their situation. I never thought Karl would be asked to coach because of the way he asked and how he needs the spot light on him.

Karl as great as he is, he still acts like a child who needs validation and attention to feel important. I suggest this is because he grew up with out his father to set him straight about how to act.

If DW said the comments he said then BRAVO! I laugh good and hard about it. People are going to believe what they want to believe regardless of the facts. I personally think Sloan just got fed up with dealing with all NBA players. I do not think DW was the primary reason why he quit, I just think sometimes it seems like a specific moment is the cause while in reality, it is just the entire pile of crap over time that gets to you. Enough is Enough. I think Sloan's style was just as much as fault as DW's personality and moodiness about losing.

I still love the Mailman even with all his warts and I give Greg Miller a lot of kudos for sticking up for his business and reputation. However, I would have rather they had their little spat in private but really Karl is mostly to blame for it going public.
