What's new

Game Thread Jan 12, 2026 05:00PM MT: Utah Jazz @ Cleveland Cavaliers

Folks are dreaming about the Cavs falling in the lottery... except they won't. The Cavs are consistently losing a half of their games, but so is everybody else in the East. They will be sitting in this 5-8 range forever.

If that's the plan, then why haven't they made moves to win? This team is on pace to lose the draft pick. So the team won't be getting better via the draft.
The Jazz have wasted 3 straight years with trying to win with a bad roster and its just delaying the rebuild. If they don't want to use the draft to get better and don't make trades to get better players what is the end game?
Do they want to be a fringe playoff team? Cause they blew up a team that was already better then that to waste 3 straight years.

I'm beginning to shift to the "Nurk helps Key a lot" camp. He is such a good screen assist guy with solid roll/DHO skills, that when Key can play 2-man game with him his own game looks effortless and the decission making looks to be on point.

Turns out rebounding is a big part of being good defensively. I hope the kids take notes. Lauri and Nurk won this game for us on the boards by not allowing Cavs 2nd chance points. That was like night and day compared to the Hornets game.

We just beat the spread by 24.5 points. Assuming Lauri was playing in the Charlotte game I would guess the spready would be Jazz by 3.5 and we ended up losing by 55, so a 58.5 difference. So the difference between having Lauri and not having Lauri was 83 points.

If the Cavs drop to 7 or 8, the team that I saw tonight isn't winning those play-in games. A loss like tonight is just massive to their psyche.
