Alec Burks Highlights vs. Kings

Burks was a pleasure to watch tonight. There were some nice shots, and passes. At least he won't ever see a DNP again.
 
After that fast-break pass, I'm all for putting him at the point guard spot.
Best lineup: Burks-Hayward-Howard-young big (Kanter or Favors)-'vet' scorer (Al or Millsap)
 
They made CJ not Burks Subway sub of the game, not sure how that happened. CJ scored some points but his overall game was not that great.
 
This kid needs to turn his body into DWade's. Adding 3-4 inches vertical would do wonders. The leg strength that goes along with it would really help him control his body while juking and breaking ankles.
 
Does he need more vertical? He looks like he has plenty of hops. Maybe more strength and a better outside shot is what he really needs.

No, adding 3-4 inches on his vertical would help him get a few more highlight dunks, but not much towards his overall game. Strength and shooting is what he needs. I doubt he will ever get a Wade body because Wade is extremely strong and has a muscular frame.

LOL, I am really starting to like Burks the most. Kid plays with heart. Same with Kanter. Good solid picks.
 
At first I wasnt sure about his vertical. I thought it was good but not great. until a few games ago when he came in baseline and tried to throw one down one handed but missed. I cant remember against who but it showed he has plenty of hops.

Everytime he plays, we see more glimpses of some super star ability. We may have stolen one here boys, in what was considered a weak draft at #12
 
I dont get why people said he was going to have to work on his shot. Burks shot is silky smooth. I think he is going to be a great shooter. He already is a really good shooter. Its crazy how Hayward came in labled as a shooter and Burks wasnt. Burks shot looks way better than Haywards

I am of that attitude that they can always get better. Even at the things they are good at. He is a good shooter? Sweet. Go work on it and become an elite shooter. Good passing skills? Go work on it and get elite passing skills...hit that gym and always improve.
 
Oh wow, I missed one of Alec's best games. What is most exciting to me, is how hard he plays on defense. Although the skill and experience isn't all there yet, you can totally see that the kid is giving it absolutely everything that he's got. Sloan woulda loved him, Im sure Corbin does too. If he gets another DNP this season, I will lose almost all hope in Ty. He should be averaging circa 20mpg from here on out, especially with our massive slump at this stage of the season.

Thats one of the things that I love about our youth. The effort. Favors, Kanter, Hayward, Burks. These kids all play as hard as they can. Defensively, we definitely have a solid core of youth. All we need is for one of them to become a go-to guy offensively, and I seriously think that we have a contending team in a few years, especially with whoever we get in this years draft. Im beginning to hope that we draft a PG, or at least use Al and Harris to get a solid one. Either that, or I hope we get some great shooters, and we just ride Harris for the next year or so.

What the hell are you talking about? Now you're poo poo hang time and the ability to shoot over a player or elevate quickly to get a shot off under control before it gets blocked? Stronger legs help players shoot accurate fade away jumpers. Stronger legs allow Flash to maneuver through traffic without going off balance. Hops aren't just about running to the rim and dunking.

Kobe and Wade both shoot over players because they quickly elevate under control and get consistent height. Players have to play tight because they'll nail an outside shot if the defender slacks off. That allows them to draw fouls and to blow past players for easy layups.

Burks has an opportunity to take his game to the next level here and there is no reason he shouldn't demand that of himself.
