Following potential 2012 draftees

Question to all of the posters that know Austin Rivers fairly well:

If we were to draft him, how do you predict that a backcourt with Rivers and Burks would fare?

I am assuming that our core will be:
Rivers/Lillard/Marshall/FA PG
Burks
Drafted SF or Hayward, with one of the two being a 6th man
Favors
Kanter

Will the lack of a dedicated distributor hurt this team when we start making the playoffs, once our youth develops? Can any of you see a Rivers/Burks one-two punch being the best thing since sliced bread, or rather a poor, poor mans curry/ellis backcourt? Are the two players similar in terms of what thy offer, and how they play? I know PKM has said that a lot of GMs see Rivers as a PG, so that is what I am basing this off of. If we draft Rives, will we still need to find a PG?

Problem is Curry is a better passer than Rivers or Burks. I would not want to be a big man with this backcourt they would probably never see the ball.

Just for kicks, I went back to look at my original 'pre-season' top 22 (notes added);

1. Andre Drummond - I am now firmly with Drummond at #2 and Davis at #1.
2. Anthony Davis - See above
3. Harrison Barnes - I am not as high on Barnes as I was, but not as down on him as most. Probably move him into the 5 or 6 range.
4. Kidd-Gilchrist - I love MKG, but I would now move him down to the 7 or 8 range.
5. Quincy Miller - Have seen a bit of what I expected. I'd say around 6'ish.
6. Brad Beal - Very disappointed in the season. I think Beal should be moved down to late lottery.
7. Jarred Sullinger - I started the season lower on Sullinger than most. I'm now thinking he should go 10'ish.
8. Perry Jones - I started the season lower on PJIII than most. I think 8 is about right.
9. James McAdoo - I still like McADoo, but he's seen limited minutes and will likely stay put another year. If he came out this year, I'd put him in the 14-15 range.
10. Terrence Jones - Disappointing year. I'd put TJones around 13-15.
11. Marquis Teague - Not ready for the NBA. Move down to 18-20.
12. Thomas Robinson - Very impressed. I missed this one. Move him up to 4 or 5.
13. Austin Rivers - Seen roughly what I expected. I'd move him up, though, to around 8-10.
14. Jeremy Lamb - I called it. He'll start strong and fizzle. He has fizzled. I like him right where he's at ... late lottery.
15. John Henson - Very much improved. I'm impressed. He'll get pushed around a lot, but he's a player. Around 12.
16. Patric Young - Wow, underwhelming thus far. Nice player, but a little undersized (a la Sullinger). Around 20-22.
17. Tyler Zeller - About what I expected. This is about right.
18. Festus Ezeli - Limited action, but about on pace. 19-22
19. Myck Kabongo - Most like him more than I do. I think he'll stay another year, but if he were in this draft, I'd put him late first round.
20. Tony Wroten, jr - I think he'll stay in school. He's fun to watch, but scouts are not high on him, at all. Early 2nd.
21. Kendall Marshall - Exceeded my expectations. Move up about 3 or 4 spots.
22. John Jenkins - About what I expected. Stay put.

I know, I know .. I put a number of people in the same range. When I can get a little more time, I'll do a new first round mock of my opinions and let the heckling begin.

Good question. Sounds scary to me and I know that saying that flies in the face of other statements I've said regarding Rivers. I'm not in the camp that you have to have an elite pass-first PG in order to win a championship. However, if you don't have one, you must have great shooters and great slashers. I envision Rivers having no trouble bringing the ball up the court, no trouble getting into the lane (especially with the floor spread), and learning to dump it off to one of our bigs in lieu of a circus shot.

I only think this duo is doable if Burks is a legit threat from the perimeter. I do admit that, even then, it just sounds a little scary .. but FAR better than what we're watching right now .. at least it would be highly entertaining.

Why did you put jones ahead of Rivers?

Wow, this is the worst most horrible list of draftees in an order that I have ever seen!

Sorry, I just looked at NBAdraft.net, I was wrong, this is much much better.

If you were KOC is this what your draft board would look like.
