Damian Lillard - Our best PG hope

I watched the game last night, he could literally do whatever he wanted ala Derrick Rose .... but he was playing against Montana. He struggled against BYU earlier this year also. I'm not completely sold on him, but I wouldnt be mad if the Jazz picked him up.

Did anyone else read this as, "Dalai Lama - Our best PG hope"? He already wants DWon't's number, which is a great sign.

I graduated from Weber last April, but still live in Ogden and go to all the games. I have met Lillard a few times up on campus. The guy is a stud. He has a great attitude and work ethic. He isn't in to partying and is a very good family guy. He even likes living in Utah. He could have played in a number of different schools, but chose to play in Ogden, Utah. I think personality wise he would fit the Jazz very well. He is a very good three point shooter, and a very unselfish player. He is very humble and always willing to deflect credit to his teammates and coaches. Just a solid individual. All his coaches and teammates have giving him credit as an extremely hard worker. Hope thhis helps.

I thought we should make an all things Lillard thread since it's a real possibility the Jazz could take him.

The Jazz MIGHT end up with Lillard, they may also end up with any of thousands of other players. The odds of Damion Lillard being a Jazzman most be 10's of thousands to one.
Making this thread, and all mention of the Jazz linked to Lillard's name or Marshall's name or anyone else's name at this point is just plain ridiculous. I also like Lillard and think
he might make an NBA player but right now he is a fairly small sized fish in a pond the size of the Pacific ocean.

Montana seemed like a pretty good team to me. They had a legit 7 footer, a good PF, and an athletic PG and some really good shooters. They ALSO HAVE THE NEPHEW OF JOHN STOCKTON (who is a bench player who sucks)!!!! They are only 5 deep, but their starting 5 seemed like legit competition to me.

I would say the odds are way higher than that if, especially if the Jazz land two lottery picks. The odds would be pretty high then.

The highlight real posted in the PG thread make him look too slow, not athletic enough, and way too small to be a starting PG in the NBA. I'd rank him Jameer Nelson light.

The good news is that I don't think the top 10 talk is anywhere near reality so the Jazz should be able to pick him if they want to. I wouldn't have the balls to pick him in the lottery either. He's nice, but he's not going to be good in the NBA from day 1 and it's quite possible he might never develop the point guard skills he needs to.

If someone had the balls to draft Jimmer in the lottery, I think Lillard could easily be picked.

Just some quick key differences.

A. He appears much more athletic to me
B. He is about 6'2, not 6'.
C. He has a substantial wingspan, I would bet Jameer has one pretty close to his actual height.

I think Lillard tops my PG list right now. That's mostly because Rivers hasn't answered the question of if he can really be a PG or not for me and that Marshall is just going to be a bigger, slower Brevin Knight. I'm not in love with Lillard, but his best attribute is the Jazz's worst (floor-spacing/3-point shooting) and plays a position of great need moving forward. I actually found it encouraging just how invisible he was for most of the 2nd half because he was really trying to get everyone else involved before donning his MJ hat.

How much of that was a product of hype though? The Jimmer love was crazy for the last few months that he was at BYU, and think NBA scouts/execs are just as prone as anybody else to fall into that trap. With Lillard, dude is actually going to have to play ball before his new NBA team's fans get behind him a little. Jimmer was a safe pick in some ways.
