Hunger Games

"The uploader has not made this video available in your country." **** you to youtube.

I bought tickets to the 12:20 am showing last night and was so excited, I peed my pants.

I read the first book a few times before I went to see the movie, which was probably a bad idea 'cause I had every detail seared into my memory. I was a bit disappointed. I guess my expectations were way too high. The scenes/details that they left out, lack of character development, shaky camera, and how everything just felt so rushed ruined it for me. Didn't hate it, though. I would watch it again and will go see Catching Fire when it comes out.

One last thing. I love Peeta. He's what...16 or 17 in the book? 19 in real life? Yep, I'm a 'Peeta-file'.

Didn't Arnold Schwarzenegger make this same movie in 87 it was called the running man pretty much same plot but Arnold could kick everyone's hungry ***

Can anyone answer me these questions?

-Why can't the people that live in the districts just move to the Capitol where there is plenty of food? Are they held there because of their race or religion?

-They people in the district act like they have never seen food before. The main girl freaks out over a crumble of bread. Yet she is curvy and everyone looks healthy, even all the guys are all ripped and sexy looking. Makes no sense.

-The Capitol city is far more advanced in technology then our current time. So they are clearly smart people. Yet they see it fine to keep people in camps and "hungry" living like dogs, as well as watching children kill each other. Not only that but the cheer it on like the Super Bowl.

-Imagination and creativity in stories is great. But make the story consistent and believable under the setting its portrayed in.

-Also I agree its a rip off of Running Man.

Yeah for over thinking everything! Glad you guys expect Oscar worthy storyline and details from The Hunger Games and every other movie you watch.

Saw it this afternoon, and I loved it. The movie is rarely as good as the book, but they did a good job in the amount of time they had.

I agree that if you haven't read the books it could be confusing as they didn't spend much time discussing why the world was the way that it was portrayed. Bean, the movie is set quite some distance in the future in what was formerly the United States (since this was the 74th games, it is obviously quite far in the future). At some point, some of the regions tried to rebel against the government. They failed. People were forced to stay in their Districts and were not allowed to leave (remember the high voltage fence with the sign saying that it was the District boundary - although they didn't always have the fence on which is why Katniss could get through it to illegally hunt). The people were starved and forced into submission. Even if they physically could, not everyone could move to the capitol any more than they could now. Someone has to mine the coal and grow the food and cut the trees, etc. The Hunger Games was a sick way for the government to remind everyone that they were in control of everything.

I wasn't sure about the casting of the movie when it was announced, but I thought the actors playing Katniss and Peeta were a pleasant surprise. Not sold on the Gale actor, though. All I can think about when I see him is Miley Cyrus. Stanley Tucci was brilliantly creepy. Not a big Woody Harrelson fan generally, but Haymitch was the perfect role for him.

Can't wait for the next movie!

There's only one movie that deserves its own thread this year.... And it doesn't come out until July 20th...

Having said that, I think the real interest in Hunger Games is that just 2,000 years ago the strongest empire in Europe was doing similar things... The government forcing people to fight to the death really isn't that far fetched (it has already happened)....

The "right" is all up in arms over the violence and kids killing kids now that it is out now that they have seen it.

Um hello? That is what the book was about. What the hell were they expecting? I am going to see it.

You would think the right would actually like it since it depicts a totalitarian government that controls everything and has taken away freedom. right? I haven't read the books or seen the movie yet. I'm just going off on what I've read/heard.

Isn't that what Obama has done basically? Of course, Brother Romney is going to change everything and 2013 is going to be like the mid-late 90s if Romney is elected...

Considering the subject matter, I was surprised at how many kids 10 and under were at the showing I attended. It wasn't nearly as gory and violent as it could have been, but it certainly deserved its PG-13 rating. I guess parents allow kids to watch almost anything these days, though, so I shouldn't be surprised.
