shows us we need a back-up PG more than anything else, at this point.
Lemme splain;

PG - Williams / Price / Gaines
SG - Bell / Miles / Hayward
SF - Miles / AK / Hayward /
PF - Milsap / AK / Jefferson / Okur
C - Jefferson / Okur / Fes

Squabble about who starts, where, and playing time, but bottom line is it appears to me we have quality depth at all other positions more so than at PG.

Agree of disagree? (yes, I know KOC said we need a shot-blocking big man ..)

Thats only 11 wont they carry 14 players? Not that they ever crack the rotation.

And I don't know about Bell being the sixth man, after being gone for so long and injured for two years he will probably be reluctant to step in and start shooting right away. ;)

AK will start and Bell will be sixth man ... a good sixth man usually provides instant offense
I agree. Once Okur is ready to go, here is what I see happening.

C: Jefferson (20), Okur (23), Fesenko (5)
PF: Millsap (33), Jefferson (15)
SF: AK (33); Hayward (15)
SG: CJ (30); Bell (18)
PG: Deron (38); Price/Gaines (10)

Jeffers makes the team as the 12th man. Evans buys a suit and tie to sit behind the bench.

Scratch Okur and the rotation could look something like this.

C: Jefferson (35); Fesenko (13)
PF: Millsap (35); AK (13)
SF: AK (22); CJ (11); Hayward (15)
SG: CJ (22); Bell (26)
PG: Deron (38); Price/Gaines (10)

The flexibiilty of CJ and AK are invaluable to start off the season. I could see Utah carrying a 14th player on a non-guaranteed contract through the end of December. Someone like Augustine could make the team if Okur is slow to recover.

Everyone has their own opinions and here's my starters (not neccesarily most minutes);

Most common
DWill
Bell (Veteran / Defense / 41% from 3)
AK (I know most would say CJ, but I believe in putting your best 5 players on the court to start)
Sap
Jefferson
- coming off the bench first with CJ or Okur based on in-game needs/match-ups -

Against Big teams
DWill
CJ (though I like him more at three)
AK
Jefferson
Okur
- with Sap first off bench, or Bell for shooting -

Stretch the floor and allow Deron to operate
DWill
Bell
AK
Okur
Jefferson
- This gives 3 shooters and a low post scorer and Deron the ability to really run an offense -

I'm a self-admitted NEW Jazz fan so go easy. :p

No wrong answers, PKM.
I think Jerry will try a few different combinations. And the best players don't always start. Sloan always like to have a veteran to lead the 2nd group - maybe that's AK, maybe it's Raja. The one thing I don't see happening, though, is Millsap off the bench. He's been waiting too long to be a starter. I think he gets that chance. I also think Jefferson/Millsap are great complementary players. If an opponent doubles down on Al with the PF, Jefferson can pass it back out to Paul for a nice 12-15 footer.

I'd actually like to see AK off the bench, especially with Price/Gaines as the backups. Andrei could be our Point forward. It would give him more touches, something he has always wanted. Maybe Raja and CJ do start at the wings.

Man, I DO NOT want to see Bell starting. He really needs to be coming off the bench. For the regular season, minutes will be divided up much more broadly in the playoffs. There, I would expect the Jazz to go three man rotation for the bigs with Jefferson and Millsap starting, three man rotation on the wings with Hayward being reduced or cut out of minutes unless he has a big year as a rookie, and then Williams and the primary backup.

During the regular season, I'm sure Sloan will go 10 deep quite often.

PG - Williams / Price / someone besides Gaines
SG - Bell / Miles / Hayward
SF - Miles / AK / Hayward / Evans
PF - Milsap / AK / Jefferson / Okur
C - Jefferson / Okur / Fes

That's 12 guys.
Depending on team needs I'd go either Augustine (PF/C), or a defensive and/or 3 pt threat SG for the 13th roster spot.

I agree, Bell should not start.

If AK is really going to spell the bigs, I see him coming in at the 5 minute marks and playing out the halves. That leaves a likely rotation of Bell starting at the 2 for the first 8 minutes of 1st and 3rds, CJ starting alongside him, Gordon getting his late 1st/early 2nd minutes, and CJ and AK closing halves and games.

So my guess is Bell does start to open the year. Jerry could start Hayward, but why throw a rookie to the wolves right out of the gate? Let him get his feet wet on the second unit first. And since AK will be coming in for either Sap or Jefferson, that only leaves Bell.

If you guys think Raja Bell is coming off the bench your insane. Jerry will start him. Miles & AK its debatable who will start. I hope its AK.

Okay. Did you really just call AK a "shooter"

If you guys think Raja Bell is coming off the bench your insane. Jerry will start him. Miles & AK its debatable who will start. I hope its AK.

They could start AK and let him finish out the 1st by sliding over to play 4. I just see Jerry preferring AK as the stabilizing force on the second unit for the time he's out there. By coming in at the 5's, AK plays through the whole second unit until he closes halves and games with the first unit.

I thought the same but I think he means AK will be the slasher type while Bell will be the shooter. That would be a heck of a lineup. Memo and Bell sitting on the 3, D Will doing work, Al looking for a dish down low and AK slashing

The other thing is Bell's whole game is shooting 3's right? Playing with the first unit seems to play more to his strengths. I could also see CJ as being the 'scorer' of the second unit. How they flip AK/CJ could go either way. But I'd be surprised if we didn't close out halves and games with those two together, so CJ will be seeing more time at the 2 this year.

I think we all agree the starting 6 is:
Dwill
Bell
CJ
AK
Millsap
Jefferson

And while Jerry likes the fixed rotations, so we'll see who he thinks should come off the bench first. I like BShelby's summary, but i think there is a chance the CJ could be the right move if he continues his improved overall scoring skills and maybe be "the man" on the 2nd unit. And just like last year, finishers are in-game-strategy decisions. (Que the debate...)

OKur is not in this debate ("fortunately" he's injured...) But will figure in later in the season when he's back, but will have accepted the role with CJ as a leader/scorer on the 2nd unit. I think resting him a lot is good for him as a shooter. This would make the regular rotation first team a better defensive team and the 2nd team potent offensively and acceptable on D.
