What's new

Finally took the plunge and published my book

****, if I can give the dude at the freeway exit a buck, I can give Edgewriter .99. Or Amazon .98 and Edge .01.

I downloaded it but I have three Game of Thrones books, some Steven King book about a gunslinger, and about 10 other books on my Kindle. But you got my money.
Thanks a ton. Actually, I get 35 cents per download, but at the moment this isn't for the money. It is for exposure. If I get enough downloads then I have a much better chance of convincing a major publisher to take me on.

I myself have four indy books to read for people who bought mine before I can get back to reading Game of Thrones.

My Kindle Overfloweth

On a side-note, I have read more books in the past 6 months than I had in the previous 6 years, thanks to my Kindle.

On a side note, please don't give those guys money, it only encourages them. Then they start threatening the ones who don't give them money.

Edgewriter, I will download your book on my Nook if it is available. Just out of curiosity, can anyone write something and put it on amazon to be available for purchase?

I don't. I'm scared to roll my window down for them. And the guy I saw the other day reached into his pocket and pulled out a pack of Marlboro reds. He obviously didn't need my money if he's smoking reds.

If one threatened me I would hit him with my car door.

Luther!!!! Are you angry with me?!!

I am Edgewriter's brother and I too have been a part of the board for a long time...since March 2003.... Anyway I have read his book a couple times as revisions have been made and if you take the time to read the sample you won't need me to tell you that his book has an edginess to it and it keeps your interest throughout. It just needs exposure and I don't know how many big time readers there are on the board, but you will enjoy it if you take the time.

Did you think of this strategy yourself or is this the route other successful writers have taken to get published?

I don't know how much success other people have had trying this method, but as someone who has tried for years to submit to agents and publishers I have learned that no one wants to take a chance on a new guy. They want to go the safe route. All an agent or publisher wants to see from a new writer is a short synopsis and a return envelope that they can send a form rejection letter back in. Only if they like the general Idea of the book will they get back to you and ask you to send them more so that they can read and decide if you are any good.

They have interns whose job is to glance over the hundreds of query letters and discard any that don't meet specific parameters they are looking for. Right now that means Harry Potter knockoffs and Twilight knockoffs. The only way for a Fantasy writer to get in is to be someone with a track record. If they see that you have published books before, they are more willing to give you a chance.

So the idea is for me to be able to say. My first book sold X number on Amazon and I want to sell you the full rights to the rest of the series and the republishing rights for the first book.

That way, maybe I can get past the intern to someone important.

So for now all I can hope is that the people who download my book read it. If they read it, they like it, and if they like it and want to read the next book, they tell their friends to get it. Word of mouth is my friend right now.

So far everyone that has read past chapter three has finished the book and anyone that has finished the book has given me great feedback.

Congratulations man, so you write a series, then did you finished them all or you still write them?

I may purchase and read it btw, when my final exams are done, I like this genre, there are more than 500 SF/Fantasy books in my bookshelf and -over 30 S. King books- I read them since I was ten.

Hey all,

Long time board member. Started in 2005. It's been a while since I posted actively on the board here. I have mostly lurked and read threads, only posting sporadically for the last year or so. From the threads I read this season, there are a lot of new guys and not so many of the old posters, so I'm not sure how many of you remember me.

At any rate, I have been writing a series of Fantasy novels for years and submitted to publishers on and off. Finally last week, I put book one up on Amazon. It's been doing pretty well, and since I used to post about it here a few years ago, I thought I would post the link on here if any of you are interested.

https://www.amazon.com/Eye-Moonrat-...0ZHM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1337529724&sr=8-1

I have debated putting this up here because I know how snarky these boards can get. I fully expect to get some jeers and sneers just for posting the link, but I have invested a lot of time and developed a lot of relationships on the board here over the years and I thought, "What the heck. Why not?"

So check it out. Let me know what you think. There is a free preview on there and if you like it or have questions, PM me. I'd love to hear from you. Thanks and . . Go Jazz!

Congratulations on pursuing and achieving a small dream. Good luck with your endeavors.

I have book two finished and I'm currently working on the last chapters of book three. It will be a five book series all together.

Dude it sounds like you are a reader after my own heart. I've been reading fantasy since before middle school and these characters have been in my head all my life. It is a dream come true to be able to share these stories with everyone else.

Craig2112 just texted me wondering if your upcoming books have any descriptive scenes of "hot guy on guy action". Do you have any idea what he's talking about?

If that has something to do with a guy cutting another guys arm off with a sword, then yes. There is also Ogre on Giant spider action and girl on mutant rat action. And a giant golem paralyzes a wizard from the waist down.

I'd read it if you had a hard copy available. I absolutely loathe e-readers though and I'm scared to see what libraries are going to look like in 10 years.
