Gerald Wallace available

Gerald Wallace is declining his player option to become a free agent. I think he would be a decent fit on our team for the right price. He plays solid defense. He will be turning 30 this year and has had his fair share of injuries though. Would you guys be open to signing him and at what price? We would have to clear some salary but I think we could make it work, sign and trade maybe.

Are you sure? Source?

If so,
Holy *@#*#
The Nets might have made the 2 worst trades in NBA history within a year.

Hahahahahahahahhahaha!!!!!!!!! Ladies and gentlemen, the Brooklyn Nets!

Excuse me while I forum-creep the meltdown going down in Brooklyn right now. DWill is officially gone.

Legend sports is reporting it, whoever that is.

Legion Sports: Gerald Wallace has told Nets officials that he will decline his $9.5 mil player option for next season and will become a free agent.

Legion Sports: Rob Pelinka (Wallace's agent) tells me: "This doesn't mean Gerald won't be here next year, we will explore all our options, Gerald loves NY" Twitter

The Gerald Wallace trade was one of the dumbest I've seen in a while. Also, why is Wallace opting out of nearly 10 million? No way in hell he gets paid that next year, right? I would guess he is just trying to cash in on his last 4 year deal?

He is not expected to get 10 million a year contract but he is smart to opt out and get his last long term deal now.

Not interested. 30 is a perfectly wrong age to be for this team to sign somebody, and players like him usually diminish significantly at this point in their lives.

I might have a somewhat different tune if he could shoot/spread the floor as a wing. But he doesn't. Not interested.

P.S. The Nets should probably just go ahead and be contracted at this point.

I think you're underestimating the stupidity of Billy King. P

The Nets went all-in for D.Will. The Dwight Howard situation isn't completely over, but it may be time for the Nets to move on here.

Yes, the Gerald Wallace trade whereby the Nets gave up the #6 pick in the draft for half a lockout-shortened season of Wallace ranks as a very, very bad trade.....especially because I don't think it's even a factor as to whether D.Will or Dwight go to Brooklyn. The pick at #6 should be a better player regardless.

yup.

I would look at giving him about $5 million a year for 4 years. He is a player that I have felt could be good with Utah's system.

I expect others to disagree, but I actually think he'd be worth a 3 year contract at about $7 million per year.

Jay-z wrote about his special ed team:

Me, I got a plug, Special Ed "I Got It Made"
If Jeezy's payin' LeBron, I'm payin' Dwyane Wade

Note to Jay-z: You're not even paying Derrick Favors, Enes Kanter, this year's lottery pick, or next year's GSW pick, or D-Will after next season.
