Downside of Trading Jefferson-who replaces him?

If we traded Jefferson and don't get a center back, then we would be in a tough spot in our big man rotation.

On good nights Millsap, Favors and Kanter can split the minutes. On many nights I expect Kanter and/or Favors will be in foul trouble. We could play smalll or play Evans at PF with Millsap at Center. But we will need another option. And the Free Agent Center pickings are very, very slim- especially at the price are willing to pay.

A partial list is:

Ryan Hollins
Dampier
Jason Collins
Mahimi
Fess
Camby
Jordan Hill

Do any of these names excite people?

I thought the bigs and wings were interchangeable in the Jazz offense. So it looks like this...

1 - point
2-3 Wings (interchangeable)
4-5 Bigs (interchangeable)

Am I wrong? Also, I think Favors can hold the "4 or 5" just fine and if we trade Jefferson we would still have Millsap.

I really couldn`t care less. We traded for Favors and drafted Kanter because we believe in them. If we dump Jefferson and/or Harris for next to nothing we will have a bad season, but as long as our young core develops and manage to excite us on every other night or so, it`s a win anyway. If it turns out that we actually need another big, we can use the GS pick next year.

In the offense, 4 and 5 might be interchangeable. We also have to play defense. Kanter is young, Millsap is short, and Favors may not be strong enough for a C yet.

We will desperately need a consistent shooting threat, to open up the paint for Millsap. Favors at the 5 should be alright.

Gods, what I would do for a Lillard + bad contracts for Al trade. I would name my firstborn son Kevin.

The question isn't who replaces him, the question is how the hell do Favors and Kanter get fair opportunities with him on the team and how the **** is he supposed to be utilized in an offense that doesn't revolve around him.

You don't need to replace him. You need three rotation guys, and 1 limited big guy to get mop up duty and a couple mins if someone gets in foul trouble. The Jazz potentially already have that fourth guy. Ante Tomic. That gives you Favors, Millsap and Kanter to get the bulk of the mins (around 30 mins a night each) and when needed, Tomic can step in and give some minutes. The Jazz are set up front, even if they lose Al.

This is what I don't understand... Everyone complained that the Jazz had no size when boozer was here, and finally the jazz have some size with Jefferson, Favors, and Kanter and Jazz fans can't wait to get rid of Jefferson. I love Millsap and he'd be great off the bench but signing Jefferson to a vet contract and keeping him would be the smarter thing to do in my opinion.

Well, we'd probably want a 4th big. But, that's really not hard to find a guy who can give you spot minutes.

I hear Ostertag wants to make a comeback!!!!

OSTERTAG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would also rather keep Jefferson than Millsap. Millsap's size gets him killed at times.

Jefferson is a ball stopper.

Jefferson doesn't play defense.

Jefferson doesn't pass the ball.

Jefferson doesn't play up to his "size." He plays small. I remember one play last year, he had a chance three feet from the hoop to dunk it home. Instead, he did a pretty little spin move (unguarded) and pushed up one of his "weezy" shots.

The list goes on and on. The guy is not a leader, not a winner, not a team player. He makes Boozer look like Reagan as far as leadership skills go.

Of course the Jazz will have a couple of low priced back up Bigs on the roster, probably one older guy and one project to log a few back-up minutes. The problem is not too many Big guys with Jefferson, but too many that demand (justifiably so) starter minutes. Having four guys that need minutes at the 4 and 5, while having a noticeable hole on the wings and at PG (outside of Hayward and Burks) means it is worth it for the Jazz to downgrade one of the Bigs in order to improve the other spots.

3 solid Bigs with a couple of other guys, instead of four provides opportunities to increase minutes for the guys who are left, and improve somewhere else.

Jefferson's inability to play basketball kills the Jazz far more. The hallowed, patron saint of Jazz basketball and one of the best PGs in the league didn't know how to use him for crying out loud.

"OMG SIZE GUYS" literally translates to, "Don't listen to me because I'm a reductionist dumbass."

Because Kanter showed enough to make believers out of most fans. A big part of the reason I was in favor of a no-trade conservative approach last year was heavy skepticism that Enes was going to just walk into the NBA and be able to contribute to wins. I thought it'd be more or less a red-shirt season for him especially with the lockout and new coach. But he played more than I expected and was impressive enough to make Jefferson expendable. To my eyes Kanter is way ahead of schedule, therefore Al is unnecessary.

It's also time for Favors to take a much larger role. He's not under contract forever and the team hasn't given him a whole lot of reason to be loyal. I think it's legitimate to worry a little about him and his connection/disconnect with the Jazz.

Don't get me wrong I want the team to trade Jefferson for the future. But is everyone okay with backsliding out of the playoffs because Favors and Kanter get into foul trouble or hurt? IMO Favors is ready but he is still foul prone. Playing Kanter more than 20 min/game is a really big risk.
