How are we only 13th in league in rebound differential?

Jefferson. Millsap. Favors. Kanter. A long 3 in Williams. Hayward.

And we're just at +1.57 a game? Pathetic.

Seriously, I was just curious, thinking we may be top 3 in the league and I looked it up and we're freakin' 13th? This is pathetic.

Simple. Distribution of minutes.

Also, Al is a rebounding opportunist, not a grit-it-out rebounder. (part of the minutes thing)

Is it that simple? Favors and Kanter play 36 a game. The other two play their 60 or whatever. Add in Gaye and Gayward and we should easily be a top 8 team in the league in rebounding.

Edit: They play 151.1 minutes a game. They play 63% of our minutes.

I hold 2 things responsible for this;

1. Not enough help from wing players. (Especially Marvin is a huge dissapointment)
2. Not benefiting enough from good rebounders like Favors&Kanter.

I can live with this. Thank you.

Medium-length answer.

I don't see great coaching at about any aspect. Minutes distribution would help, as would proper 'bench motivation' .. meaning, box out/get the boards, or sit.

Not great team chemistry.
Lack of a solid common goal that every player plays towards for the team.
Coaching and holding accountable the basics for rebounding.

(same can be said for nearly every other aspect of the game, imo)

What I'm very curious about is why we don't play the three bigs more together like we did last year. I feel like we did it once early in the year this season and Ty bailed on it like a bitch after one game.

I mean I know we have the Wet Bandit and Hayward at the 3 but uh, yeah. Play Millsap and Jeff two less minutes each, and Millsap for six minutes at the three, and that opens up 10 more minutes, or five more for Favors (almost 27 a game) and five more for Kanter (almost 20 a game) which seems reasonable.

How do you think Izzo would be as a NBA coach?

My guess would be terrible. He's real intense and that would wear on pros quickly and his offense like you've stated pretty much blows.

Intensity would be adaptable. My concern would be over-structure. Calipari (I know), Coach K, and even Rpy Williams would be better. You need a coach that will hold players accountable but also let out some leash. Those coaches do that.

It's interesting that both Tinsley and Carroll are our best rebounders for their position (not being a big). Per 48 Carroll is 18th and Tinsley is 26th.

Here are the rankings/minute-rebound ratios by position
PG
Tinsley: 26th
Watson:48th
Mo: 79th

SG
Burks: 21st
Hayward: 40th (SG); 80th (SF)
Foye: 76th

SF
Carroll: 18th
Marvin: 68th

PF
Favors: 14th; 28th (C)
Millsap: 23rd

C
Jefferson: 22nd
Kanter: 35th; 15th (PF)

Our bigs are respectable with Kanter rebounding the worst for his position (he was our 2nd best last year at 14th for centers; Favors was first for his position at 8th), though better than Millsap overall. You can see that we have horrendous rebounders at almost every position other than the bigs. When Mo and Randy play together, they are "historically bad" at rebounding. Hayward is even worse than these two when he plays the SF. Marvin is a bit of a cream puff as well.

Our best rebounding group this year for their position:
Tinsley
Burks
Carroll
Favors
Al
