What's new

Brother heard a rumor on the Scott Van Pelt radio show

They aren't discussing Leonard in that deal... No way.

Sheridan mentioned this as a possiblity last week when he called the 'Big Show'. Said the Jazz were holding out on the Splitter deal to see if they could get the Spurs to take Bell and send back Leonard or Green. Sheridan thought it would eventually happen. LINK
This. The Spurs gave up a talented player to get him and they expect Leonard to guard the big 3s in Durant and Lebron when they go for the title run.

Except that I thought that the spurs were more badder (or is it worster?) gaurding Durrant last season when Leonard was on him.

This makes sense, but don't think the spurs will be bullied into this.

But hot damn, think of this lineup defensively in 2-3 years:

PG - Burks
SG - Gordo
SF - Kawhi
PF - Favors
C - Kanter

They might not give up a lot of points, but they sure won't score a lot either. We'd need some decent scoring pieces around them.

Have you seen Lenoard's percentages? He's a 49%/39% player. Looks like all he needs are the shot opportunities.
If he's even in the mix as a possibility, the Jazz should sweeten the deal by offering a lottery-protected 1st-rounder.

SA has the same problem at SF as Utah does at PF. Both Green and Leonard should be starters. This deal makes a lot of sense for both teams. A Jefferson/Duncan/Splitter rotation would be fantastic for SA, especially with Blair and Diaw being non-factors. They'd be a bit weak behind Green at SF after the trade. Maybe instead of a pick, they'd want Carroll to replace Leonard. Reverse the picks (we get Leonard + a pick for Jefferson and Carroll). I'd make that trade. Leonard starts with Marvin coming off the bench.

In the end, though, I think the worst fear from the Jazz FO is losing leverage. They probably want to re-sign EITHER Jefferson OR Millsap. Otherwise, the strength of the team becomes a weakness next year with just two young bigs and no solid backups. So KOC figures if both Jeffy and Paul are with the team after the trade, he can likely re-sign at least one of them. He just offers both contracts and sees which one bites first.

I heard Sheridan say it, but I don't see it. The only motivation I could see for Spurs doing it is salary. But even looking at that situation doesn't make alot of sense. I have to expect Spurs would want young players or picks back.

Would you do Jeffy and Alec for Tiago, Leonard and SJAX?

I may be inclined and believe this is what the Spurs would be looking for.

Leonard isn't going anywhere. I think he will be with the Spurs for the majority of his career. The investment and time that they will make in him will be similar to what they have done for Ginobli and Parker.

Leonard is a good young player, but he's also the beneficiary of Pop's system and playing off of Duncan and Parker. I don't think he's all that good on his own. Realistically, he's a bit better than Carroll, but I bet the Spurs could get decent numbers out of Carroll if they had to.

Green is a SG/PG. Leonard is SF.

I like Green but he isn't the talent that Leonard is.

Personally, I would take Burks out the deal. Jax is in for salary alone. He does nothing for us.
Agree. Splitter is an expiring; he's not going to opt in to his contract. Jax is worth zero. So it's basically Burks for Leonard, plus SA gets a huge upgrade for the remainder of the season and the playoffs. If this deal went down, Lindsey would get awarded a ring from SA.

I thought Green was playing some SF for them. Perhaps not. The trade would definitely leave them a bit thin at SF. Getting Carroll is probably a must in that case.

Not sure I'd have to think about it. I'm open to it but at this point I'm not sure.

Green has never played pg.

Yes he does play some sf. He does play a lot with Parker and Ginobili at the same time. Your correct.
