Local media starting to call out the Jazz

While what you suggest makes sense when looking at the draft, the Jazz mngtment have more factors to consider, foremost the financial health of the team. I fear that they are hesitant to do a 'proper' rebuild because of the underwhelming support the team got this year. If they tank next year will the fans buy in enough to pay the bills?

Of course the response from fans will be that they would support a rebuild if the young players were playing, but will Greg & Mama believe that? Will they believe it enough to take that risk in a down economy when their other intrests are also extending risk? That is the critical question for the off-season.

The second decision that must be faced quite soon is about identity. Will the Jazz brain trust decide to keep a team of nice guys? Or will they try to get an alpha dog who will win at all costs. Al is a really nice guy, so are Mo, Marvin and Foye. Alpha dogs are harder to manage on all levels, but nice guys cooperate with coaches, Managers, trainers, towel boys, owners, the local press......

Now that the season is over the newspaper folks and the talking heads will probably open up more about what was happening inside the locker room.

Yeah, I don't know why people keep buying in to this. You can't judge a draft until about 2 years after the fact. Not 2 years before.
 
Every year the draft keeps getting worse and worse according to the talking heads. Yet every year I see some awesome players. Remember how people bashed kanter's draft? The dude has the potential to be a top post up man in the league. Burks was drafted that same year. He's a fine player. Last year was supposedly going to suck. Look at Damian Lillard. The guy is already a top 10 pg in the league.

I know at #14 you won't find lebron. But someone like cj or Greece lightning could be fine players.
 
And I get it. Many want a superstar on this team ala black mamba or lebron. I think that would be nice. But lets be realistic. Those types of players come along only a few times per generation. So why not focus on kanter and favors? You can't tell me that gasol and big z are THAT much more talented than they are.

We just need a coach that knows how to use them and a pg who can get them the ****ing ball.

Ooooh. It was a test. And we failed. And there I was thinking they were just trying to maximize their immediate profits without consideration to the long term success of the team.

That's why it's nice to have an official team spokesman on the forums.

Wrong... last years draft, the year before (kanters draft) and the year before that (haywards draft) were all considered really low on nba all star talent.
Next years draft is thought to be loaded with nba all star talent.

Jazz had better attendance in the 04 tank year than they did this year "trying to compete".

Be brave and start C4 next year. Have them tried their best to win. If we make the playoffs then great it's better than this year. If not we get a decent pick.

Either way we still able to give them starting experience.. unlike this year.
 
I object to your characterization of playing their best young players more as equaling foregoing the season, but I have advocated this direction for years.

I also think that the C4 with the addition of Evans and Carroll will do better than most are assuming. I think that they are capable of making the playoffs. "Going with the youth" does not automatically equal the lottery.

can't name a team from recent memory that has had success when focused on developing the youth. Sacramento, charlotte, Detroit of late... All bottomfeeders with world class young talent on their squads. The pattern holds. Our C4 are good and need to be developed, but as of now, it can only lead to a 40+ loss season.

While that is certainly possible I do not think it will happen.
 
The Four are not greenhorns or at least they shouldn't be. Hayward and Favors will be entering their 4th years and Burks and Kanter their 3rd years. For most players, they are largely what they will be at year 3. If more than two of them are exposed as not-legit then the Jazz will get a great shot to get one in the draft.
 
For real, how long are we going to coddle these guys? Are we gonna find any vets that are better than them anyway? Play them all, start all 4, sheesh.

I actually can't wait to see what happens next year, tank or no tank. They need to give our young guys some credit & show a little trust, take a little risk. Unless the FO does some REALLY stupid stuff to mess with the minutes & certain progress of the C4 (like re-signing certain guys who started this year *cough*Jefferson *cough*Millsap), I think we're in for a worthwhile season. I would be fine keeping Mo (unless they can get someone better who isn't going to be a rookie) and Foye, DMC needs to stay. Other than that, let them go or sign & trade.

Who else caught the locker room interviews? From the ones I did see, Foye and Hayward seemed to be the most frustrated/upset about the outcome and missing the playoffs. To me that says a lot about their desire to compete and be better than mediocre. Didn't see Mo's interview if there was one.
