Paul Pierce?

I know there are going to be a lot who really hate this idea.. but hear me out:

If Garnett retires after the Celtics season, they will need to get younger. They've got Jeff Green and Rondo right now to build around, and in recent years they've been trying to trade away Paul Pierce for some value.

The dude is on a 1 year, 15 Million dollar contract, and we need a closer. Say what you want about the dude, but he's a baller when the game is on the line. He's a winner, and he's exactly what we need to help the Core 4 develop that killer instinct.

So what would you be willing to give up to get Pierce? I'd sign and trade Jefferson to them in a heartbeat, then we don't lose Big Al for absolutely nothing.

Why? He won't win the Jazz a championship and he would get major minutes over the youth. Bad idea.

We don't have any assets outside of our picks + C4 + Evans + Marvin.
I see Pierce retiring as a Celtic anyways.

Overall bad idea, but I would take Pierce's salary off Boston's hands if they wanted to throw in their 1st round pick next year. Maybe give them top 2 protection on it.

Ok, then I'd do it, but Boston wouldn't.

Probably not. But if Howard shoes an interest to play with Rondo, which has been around, they would need either Garnett or Pierce's salary off the books (and a bit more). The Jazz are one of the few teams that could absorb it without giving anything back. A Rondo/Howard pairing just saved them 5 years of misery on a rebuild.

True but I give the chances of that happening under 5%.

You've pointed out though that the Jazz should possibly hold onto their cap space to see what the free agent-chasing teams are willing to offer us to help them clear salary. Same goes for looking at sign-and-trade opportunities with Jefferson. My guess is that a few teams who don't have much space will want Al.

I love Papa P, but he is going to either finish his career with Boston, or go to a legit contender.

I guess I'm in the minority that likes the idea. Nothing wrong with having a veteran WINNER in the locker room with all the youth.. he's a sf.. hits 3's.. passes the ball.. and closes games.

Question is what do we have to give up.. likely too much.

Great we have Paul for one year to stunt Burks growth. Somewhere Ty is looking for Paul's numbers. Plus he makes it harder to get a pg.

I was thinking this at work the other day Stern. He expires, more money to feed the core, and it's a good pickup for us in the offseason without having to dish out contracts to a free agent pool that is full of chuckers.

Get er done, KO'Lindsayyy.

I really just don't feel like getting Pierce would stunt the growth of our core.. I mean isn't this board convinced we're trading Burks + picks for Bledsoe anyways? I mean the highest potential of our core rests with the two big guys, and last time I checked Pierce isn't a big guy and won't take minutes away from our young big men. I mean what about this lineup:

Bledsoe
Hayward
Pierce
Favors
Kanter

We would be a LOT improved, and there would be a lot less offensive pressure on our two young big guys.

I'd pay to watch that team.
