At first glance this seems too early for me. Can't the Jazz get most of these guys in for a workout in August? Then I realized that the Jazz have a Summer League that starts on July 7th and they need a team.

Also, it seems to me that the team is sending more and more signals that this could be a cut the costs and rebuild year.

Finally, I get the sense that Lindsey is trying to show the coaches and scouts what he is looking for while evaluating players.

In an unrealated thought. The jazz usually have their assistant coaches coach hte summer league teams. Hornacek is gone, Lowe has not been seen for a while and replacements have not been named.

Any chance Jerry Sloan coaches the summer league team?

Quite a few interesting names here. There is a guy with MS that Dallas gave a 10 to, quite a few former first and second round draft picks. Henry Sims wasn't drafted but is a nasty gritty Georgetown big man that had decent stats in the DLeague.

I hope we fill our roster with these cheap contracts, our three draft picks this year, plus picking up our options on Kevin Murphy and Jerel McNeal, then just pay bonuses for this year to even it all out, and preserve our cap space for next years draft / FA season.

We're not tanking... no... who us? Certainly not.

Seriously, let these dudes compete their hearts out. If they surprise us while on our team, that's a win. If they lose us a bunch of games and we get a good draft pick, that's a win. We're not tanking, we're just not buying mediocrity anymore.

From what I have seen Lazar Hayward is okay. I know Gordon is a beast of a rebounder- though he is a undersized center. I liked Leslie when we had him before.

I like the idea even though I don't know 85 percent of the players. This is a sign that Lindsey is leading the way or at least people are listening/trying his ideas.

I suppose it could have some connection with filling out the roster with low-cost players. But I suspect it has more to do with the Jazz trying to strengthen relationships with agents and be known as a leading possible destination for players who deserve a second look. More of a long-term than short-term strategy.

Allows the Jazz to be seen as a source of advice for on-the-cusp players (and their agents) and to have a better baseline for keeping an eye on their improvement into the future.

This is homey's wetdream. I'm thinking out of this group there will be 3 players max that will have a ghost of a chance to make the roster. There was the Knicks rookie this year that came from a background like this and he was a good player at age 29.

Doubt the Jazz will carry 15 players. So, one or two more spots unless I missed someone else in my list.

On the free agent list a sleeper might be Josh Owens who is a 6'9" 240 lbs power forward from Stanford. His numbers in the Dleague were nothing special about 5 points and 5 boards in 17 minutes of PT but he was second team all Pac 12 and he has a master's in civil engineering. I know the Jazz front office likes smart basketball players and he would seem to qualify and out of this group, I doubt the Jazz will be running plays for any of them in games that count.

Gary Neal talked at Finals Press Conference about Spurs inviting him to its Mini-Camp...

I bet this is what Dennis had in mind for the Jazz... finding those jewels in the rough.
