What's new

First time, tonight.

@3k.. please don't derail my self-depricating thread.

Should we continue to berate you? Do you have mor bad things to say? I could think of a few insults to toss your way cause of this, but I wouldn't mean any of them. You're too much like the dos Equis guy.

I can't think of a more awesome and pleasing insult.. haha
Will rape

What does not fearing god mean there are no constraints in my moral code? One has to believe in/fear god to believe there are valid moral principles?

What is 'moral' though? If there are no laws, what use is 'moral' to keep someone from killing another? raping another? Just do it out of the "goodness" of their heart?

@scootsy..

Yes.. I'm wanting to be insulted, my manhood questioned.. because I'm wanting embarrssment to trump my morals and **** that hot chick to show you guys I can... not because I wanted to. Will vid.

To answer your question, it's called the social contract.

But please, make the connection. You keep implying there is one between fearing god and having laws/morals. Elaborate.

Well I feel bad she turned you down. I'm sure there are a few ladies down at the senior center who could turn your night back around though.

Well I would argue if there are moral laws that operate beyond the realm of natural laws, where do these laws come from? Moral laws presume a moral lawgiver. In other words, God is the ultimate standard of Good. He is responsible for the distinction between good and evil that we universally perceive as binding on human action.

Call it what you will. She's a 10 and needs to be PKM'd.

I'm really trying to think of something awesome here, but damn, I'm getting slower and dumber as the hours go by. Just insert some slashing/witty comment here and pos rep me for being so clever. Thanks.

First off, you are presupposing that they are laws. Fallacious to do so. Kant said that moral duties can easily be determined by the categorical imperative. Only act on those maxims which you can at the same time will to be universal law. We could have easily determined morality this way. Do our actions yield contradictions in conception when universalized? Is an action really moral if I say, i will murder this person, but it would not be just for anyone to murder anyone else.

Moral laws presume a moral lawgiver.

Begging the question. Another fallacious statement where you presuppose that moral principles are moral laws.

In other words, God is the ultimate standard of Good. He is responsible for the distinction between good and evil that we universally perceive as binding on human action.

Quite a jump to make. How can you say that moral laws presuming a moral lawgiver is equivalent to saying god is the ultimate standard of good? Those are completely different statements.
