Stockton IS involved with the Jazz

Very interesting article in the DNews by Doug Robinson on Lindsey. Man is INTENSE and his wfe and kids take a 6-week vacation to let him focus 100% on basketball from before the draft-summer league. Most of the info we have heard already, but a couple of new tidbits...Stockton helped evaluate PG's and Sloan was the one who really loved Gobert (in addition to the international scout). I've got a massive mancrush on Dennis now! He's really taken the FO to a new level.

"At the request of the Jazz, Hall of Fame guard John Stockton reviewed video of point guards and provided his opinions on the prospects. Jerry Sloan, the former head coach who returned to the team as a consultant, spotted Gobert during pre-draft workouts and reported, “The big guy plays hard; you need to look at him.” O’Connor, the team’s vice president of basketball operations, might have pulled off the biggest behind-the-scenes contribution.

“Two hours before the draft, Kevin got us some key draft information that indicated we needed to trade up to get Burke or we wouldn’t have gotten him,” says Lindsey. “If we stayed at 14, he felt like we were not going to get Burke or the other pool players. Kevin nailed the intel because of his network. He said this is what’s going to happen, and that’s exactly what happened.”"

I wish there was a quote on what exactly Stockton thinks of Burke.

Found this in the trashcan in Lindsey's office: "Dear Dennis, Trey Burke is a true pass-first PG which the Jazz haven't had since #12 retired. I think he has the potential to be the 2nd best PG in Jazz history. Sincerely, John Stockton"

Wow.. would be awesome if Stockton was the one who singled out Burke for the PG role over McCollum and McW.

If that's the case - don't rule out Burke spending some time with Stockton himself this Summer...

Wow... this Summer just keeps getting better and BETTER!!

Now, this to me is the most interesting part about this whole draft.

What exactly is this piece of information? How did KOC get the information? Was the way that he got it legit?

- If it's legit, how come nobody else in the league got it?

- If it's not legit (i.e., KOC had a spy) then how could Lindsey have paraded around this "key information" after the draft????

- And why 2 hours before the draft?

- Who helped us to get this info? If it was another team's GM - why would another team want to help us by giving us that piece of info?

- If it was an "under the table" type deal, why would Lindsey tell the whole world about this?? He even said it at the Press Conference!!!

Can someone shine some light on this please? PKM, may be you know something???

Simple. Teams leaked the info to MULTIPLE teams to drive up the price. We gave the best offer.

If that's the case, then the info is nothing special, correct? Then why would Dennis parade this fact around as if KOC was our saviour? The whole league would be laughing at KOC/Lindsey combo if what you're saying is true.

Lindsey is just trying be a good dude. Trying to pump up KOC to the media fans to make him look good. In addition to being a phenomenal GM, he's an all around nice guy. Watch out, Chuck Norris.

The information was that Celtics were going to get the Mavs 13th pick from the and get Olynk.

Yeah, now we're getting warmer. I think this is the piece of info Lindsey was referring to. It enabled us to prepare for a deal with Minny beforehand.

The question is then - how did KOC get that info??? Was it legit or under the table or what?? What did we have to "pay" to get that info.

That is the speculation. I know thats what Locke threw out there, He knows that the the Jazz really wanted Olynik and when they found out he was going to be gone at 13 it really pushed them in to trading up.
