First half of interview is boring Riley Cooper talk, dealing with media relations and stuff. Later on they bring up Ian Clark, since this is the first time they talked to him since the official signing. Lindsey said that he had been talking to the entire staff about the importance of spacing and the need to add the corner 3 as part of the offense. I know a lot of us have been screaming for this, so I thought I we would all be excited. He talks about it around the 15:20 mark. Get excited.

It sure would be a change to see the Jazz emphasize or even have that as a staple in their offense. I have definitely become a Lindsey fan, but I could change that if Corbin coaches like last season and is not replaced. LOL

I have some deep-seated fear that we will be stuck with Corbin until he chooses to leave. We will lose out on everything if that is the case. Man I am so disappointed in Corbin. At the beginning of all this I thought he really had a shot at this, but I had no idea that Sloan's system not only made the players appear better than they were, but also the coaches.

Any chance we could get Phil to come back?

Lindsey seems pretty confident the Jazz should do what the Spurs did, or at least try. If he thinks Ty can't implement it, I'm pretty confident he will find try to find a new coach. I don't think Utah is that deeply rooted in loyalty. They show loyalty by giving him his full contract to prove himself, not firing him prematurely.

They will evaluate him this year more than ever. They kind of know they put Ty in a ****ty spot last year with their roster, so I don't think past years will weigh much in their decision as this year does.

This year will be easier than last year for Corbin. All NBA thinks we are gonna be sucking all year with the mixture roster of inexperienced youngsters and washed up vets. So no pressure, no concern to win. All he needs to do is, to be a mentor for youngsters and let them play with bravery and smartness.

For the corner threes, all european teams already use it more than the other shoots cause the percentage shows it's more accurate. But for making it, the spacing must be so good and there must be inside-outside balance to make someone forgotten at the corner. It seems we 've got inside weapon but not sure about the outside part.

I am confident because, in an interview, Lindsey was very candid about Corbin being evaluated based on his ability to install a defensive system. He was pretty specific and not at all sounding like, "Ty's our man and we support him 100%." Dennis basically sounded, to me, like Ty will be evaluated and will be kept or replaced based on the merits of his work.. and that work has been defined, communicated, and will be judged accordingly.

As it should be.

He also mentioned it won't be based entirely on wins and losses.

Yes.. and I had no problem with that. Let me translate what I heard him say.
I heard, "I want to see that a Ty can understand the intricacies of an elite defense, grasp the magnitude of its importance, and be able to get the players to buy into it 100%."

I think Lindsey will fire Corbin after this year if he isn't the unequivocal leader of this team and the guys have total respect for him. Defense is the best way to prove that out. Any other flaws can be handled through assistants with specific focuses... but a leader Ty must be.. and a damn good one.

I hope you're right.

This roster needs a coach that can take the strengths of the players and maximize them while limiting the weaknesses as much as possible. There is a lot of potential on this team.

My problem is that Corbin is not an X's and O's coach. I think Corbin makes a great assistant but doesn't have the creative mind to be a Head Coach.

To add to what PKM said, you can't bring in an elite coach (like George Karl or A great coach like Memphis's) and then ask him to lose for year so you can get Wiggins (unless you are Boston and can vastly overpay). So, keep your crappy coach (there is another couple losses) and talk about something that still = losing (defensive identity) and then when the season ends, go get a Karl or Van Gundu or Thibbs (I wish).

Plus, I bet Ty is pretty cheap as well. Might as well save a couple million on your coach when you are trying to lose.

This sums up how I feel about Corbin in a nutshell. I don't think the he has what the Jazz need, and I really hope they move on next year.

Hopefully, the Utah Jazz will be an attractive job for quality coaches to want to come here. They have a young and aggressive GM looking to build a championship team, Jazz legends like Sloan, Malone and Stockton who have all been brought back to help the team in some capacity, a bunch of young players finally starting to prove themselves (with hopefully a star or two leading the group, a great home-court advantage, a ton of cap space and loads of assets (hopefully including a top 3 pick in the 2014 draft.)

As much as I hate on corbin, I really hope he turns into a great successful coach.

Besides his coaching I really like everything else about him.
I like that he is a former jazz man..... I like the way he dresses..... I like his personality/disposition..... I think he is a good age for a coach to be..... I like his ultra blackness/purpleness with the contrast of the overall crackerness that is utah..... his nickname makes me laugh, as does his turtleness and silly voice.

Seriously really like all those things about him, no joke.

Now if he can just get that coaching part down then he would be perfect

lol.. as I read that I was envisioning Ty as a muppet.

The Jazz want more corner threes?

Yay! We have discovered what the rest of the NBA discovered in the 90's! There is a three point jumpsuit out there!

My biggest problem with Ty Corbin is that I think he's a better assistant coach than head coach. I just think it's over his head, and not necessarily something he can overcome with time and experience. I'd much rather see a guy like Stevens or Hollins at the helm. I want an X's and O's guy with an eye on efficiency and the ability to build a defensive-minded team that can score enough when needed. They should look to the Pacers as they type of team they want to be like.

?
(your phone showing that you more often type out 'jumpsuit' than 'jumpshot?')

Interesting.

I agree. In fact, I think I wrote basically the same thing earlier in this thread.

Way to make me look even smarter than I already look.
